Post written by Leo Babauta. Before I learned how to change habits, I was stuck. Here is your Sunday STORY on: LOVE OF WISDOM When the going gets tough there is a point where many would give in and say the task in hand is too difficult. Most of every day there are tasks and duties that are tedious and considerations are made to leave the job until tomorrow. Ask yourself whether it's the job that's tedious or is it your frame of mind that feels more tired than your limbs? This form of lethargy has so much to answer for; it can prevent mountains being moved and dishes on the sink from being washed. It can prevent us accomplishing a task that normally would be within our range. This lethargy in the mind destroys ambition, intimidates our enthusiasm and drains our energy tank; when in actual fact it is just a state of mind as our body is fit enough to continue. We must have a belief that we can overcome this lethargy; we must have a faith that we can conquer our weariness. This faith, this belief can fire our engines beyond the norm and provide us with so many victories. Rather than be a prisoner of our mood we must SEE the mind in action and witness its control. In doing this we can fight its effect. Faith in what is right is a major driving force and can almost create an aura around our whole being; as if we have a greater presence. Our godliness will almost protect our life like an eggshell. In today's story we see a missionary emanate with goodness and with a loving nature, and perhaps it was this that created a weird and wonderful event in protection. BE SAFE WITH FAITH A missionary on furlough told this true story while visiting his home church in Michigan... "While serving at a small field hospital in Africa, every two weeks I travelled by bicycle through the jungle to a nearby city for supplies. This was a journey of two days and required camping overnight at the halfway point. On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city where I planned to collect money from a bank, purchase medicine and supplies, and then begin my two-day journey back to the field hospital. Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting, one of whom had been seriously injured. I treated him for his injuries and at the same time talked to him about the Lord. I then travelled two days, camping overnight, and arrived home without incident. Two weeks later I repeated my journey. Upon arriving in the city, I was approached by the young man I had treated. He told me that he had known I carried money and medicines. He said, 'Some friends and I followed you into the jungle, knowing you would camp overnight. We planned to kill you and take your money and drugs. But just as we were about to move into your camp, we saw that you were surrounded by 26 armed guards. At this, I laughed and said that I was certainly all alone in that jungle campsite. The young man pressed the point, however, and said, 'No sir, I was not the only person to see the guards. My five friends also saw them, and we all counted them. It was because of those guards that we were afraid and left you alone. When did diaper changing and dressing a baby become a wrestling match???
Hmmm... It's a recent occurance. I grab a diaper- she runs the other way. I capture her- she squeals and tries to get away- legs thumping. I lay her down- she rolls away yelling as if she is being hopelessly tormented. If I stand her up- I have no chance of getting a diaper on her as she escapes with me fumbling with the diaper fasteners. When I hand her a toy, it is examined for a brief instance- and then becomes a projectile. Who knew a 16 month old could have such a fantastic throwing arm? Dressing- forget about it. I think I burn more calories dressing her than I do with high-impact aerobics. When done, I am sweating, out of breath, and on a good day, 15 minutes have passed. She of course is off and running to a new area of the house to ransack- or to her brother to torment. Walking at 9 months. Running by 1 year. Hmmm...someone should have warned us. Ideas for keeping her in one place as we wrestle her into her clothes? Hints? Tips? Happy Holidays! Thank goodness for those snuggles and hugs as she nurses and goes to sleep. Why do babies grow up so quickly??? Shhhh....she is asleep for now!!! Naps are w o n d e r f u l!!!! Climbing- yes. She is scaling anything that is not pushed in and up and down the stairs, in cupboards, you name it! My husband and I have decided that we may not survive her toddlerhood. Last week, she went to the emergency room after a fall on our stained concrete downstairs as I was making dinner. I felt like the worst mommy in the world because though I was grabbing for her on the chair- I was too late- and she went face first. She is fine- they did a cat scan- but in 11 years with our son, he'd never been to the hospital. She at 16 months has already gone. Crazy! So, now everything is pushed in, put away, and/or put up if we can't nail it down. Springs in her legs, one part spider, one part we-don't-know-what...but we do so love her dearly. The nut!
