Post written by Leo Babauta. Before I learned how to change habits, I was stuck. Symptoms Of Social Anxiety Disorder

Here is your Thursday STORY on: ADAPTING TO CHANGE: Some people think that there is a method of how to appear dominating and in charge. Imagine for example, a politician, don't they appear to be totally domineering? What about the President or as we have here in England, a Prime Minister, don't they appear to be always 'in charge' of their behavioural patterns? Broadcasters, high flying business people, high ranking army officials, high ranking government personnel, these and many more seem to have a charisma of strength and determination. So what is their secret? Making sure they are fully alert, and you will notice these people never allow themself to comment unless they have studied the facts. Knowledge is power! If you listen and respond, you will create the same energy and communication skills as these who perfect it professionally. QUOTE: 'When you only ever half listen, you can expect nothing less than only ever being half as effective.' Always pay full attention. Listen and respond, as a well structured response can change the world; more often than not, the structure isn't planned it comes from keeping full attention throughout your response. In effect what your heart tells you to say. If you could ever trust that reaction, you'll realise its potential. Try and remember a moment where you spoke without thinking, and the quality of that comment that was spoken; you may have even thought that it had come from someone else's mouth. Express this power vocally and physically and you will impress. If you knew how to harness this power you would use it regularly Adapting to change in this way is simple. Test, try and see; you may well be impressed yourself. So don't forget to listen and respond from the heart instantly. You will not know unless you try! Now on to today's story... PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE Today's example occurred in 1960. In was an American Presidential debate between Richard Nixon and John F Kennedy. The debate was broadcast both on radio and, for the first time on television. The majority of people who listened to the radio thought Nixon won the debate. But by far the majority watched it on television. Those that did thought Kennedy won. Why? Kennedy was much better at sending 'elect me' messages in a visual way that that of Nixon. (From a book by Nate Booth). QUOTE: 'Every man carries in his eye the exact indication of his rank.' (Ralph Waldo Emerson). [[ct]]: Symptoms Of Social Anxiety Disorder

I think I have social anxiety? Really need someones advice?
I've always wondered if i had some sort of anxiety disorder. I'm 16 and have major trouble with social situations. Found a site with symptoms of social anxiety disorder: Excessive fear of public speaking Avoidance of social situations Extreme fear of being judged or embarrassed Blushing, sweating, shaking, pounding heart Extreme discomfort with dating Panic attack Heart palpitations Difficulty breathing Feeling disoriented Feeling loss of control Dizziness or feeling faint Compulsion to escape I have all these symptoms. I still haven't seen a doctor for this yet. Social life sucks for me. I can barely look a girl in the eye let alone date. And right now I'm taking a class during summer school. Only three other students in the class, all of which i know. And I get nervous there. I always try to avoid going to peoples houses or if i am at one and they want to go to their friends house and want me to join, I try to make an excuse. Also recently I started taking meds for adhd, but have noticed these symptoms FAR before then. Though it seems the meds kind of increase my social awkwardness. I really want to see a doctor and maybe get something prepscribed. I still want to take my ADHD meds. So if anyone knows of a anxiety medication that doesnt react with my other meds, please tell me. I am currently taking Concerta 36mg UPDATE: The only problem I have getting treatment, is money. I don't even know, if i were prepscribed meds, my parents would be able to afford them.

Question about medication and my life?
Hey. I'm 15, going to be a sophomore next year, and i have a lot of trouble talking and getting along with other people. some days it gets better and some days it gets worse. A couple of months back i tried a week without the medication I'm taking, Adderall just to see what could happen. i found that it was a lot easier for me to talk to people (i wasn't necessarily amazing at talking to people at the time but i was definitely better) but my grades started dropping. my parents were angry at me because of this (i was a bit as well) so i had to take the medication again. right when i did and went to school the next day, i couldn't talk to people without being serious if you know what i mean. i also felt really really depressed. this has also been happening to me before i decided to take a break from it for the first time. i have been taking Adderall for 2 years. what confuses me even more is that I've heard from people that "Adderall is a medicine that "greatly" removes the symptoms of social anxiety disorder - to the point of removing it completely." (shizzle, yahoo user) I feel that it does the opposite. it makes it worse! It's like I have to choose which would be more important: my grades or my friends and the choice is to hard for me. could anyone help me? I really want to be able to talk with my friends and get good grades at the same time. oh and also when i am off my medication I have a very big appetite. i love to eat, but i am not fat. Adderall lowers my appetite a LOT, i am usually not very hungry during the day. um...that's pretty much every way i feel about the medicine
