Here is your Saturday STORY on: SOLVING PROBLEMS: If you have a problem, what do you do and where do you go? Firstly we must be aware that being choked by a problem will only make you want to kick and scream. The resultant decision would be a forced one under duress. Ideally you would want to take time, care and attention over every decision. To do this with a good degree of success we must be within a calm state of mind. If we are confronted with a problem and a state of anguish and frustration arose we must first spot the condition and then resist it from affecting any decision we make. More often than not we forget to be grateful for the other things in life that we have. Today's story illustrates how an illness can suddenly make you see life clearly; and sadly for the lady who wrote this, too clear too late. IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER (written after discovery of terminal cancer) I would have talked less and listened more. I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded. I would have eaten the popcorn in the "GOOD" living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace. I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth. I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed. I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage. I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains. I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life. I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day. I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime. Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment realizing that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle. When my kids kissed me impetuously, would never have said, "Later, now go get washed up for dinner." There would have been more "I love you's" ... more "I'm sorry's" ... but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute ... look at it and really see it ... live it .. and never give it back. How can I get motivated and gain some confidence?
?I am currently a double major in neuroscience and psychology. I have a 3.87 I have three more semesters and I will complete both degrees. I will be a first generation college student, I come from a sad family history; still up until junior year of high school, I was a well-rounded and intellectually gifted(far from genius though) individual with many friends. I have a history of ADHD and social anxiety. The social anxiety has caused major distress over the past few years, particularly since a little over 2/3 of the way through last semester. With a bit more than a quarter of the semester left, I stopped studying for my courses in Graduate level neuroanatomy and organic chemistry although i ended up pulling an A- in neuroanatomy with a stroke of luck and a B- in orgo likewise ( with A's in my other two courses). I've been deprived of any sort of family centered cultural/ intellectual/educational heritage a typical science student may enjoy growing up. As implied from above, both my parents never went to a 4 year college and were not the sharpest tools in the shed nor were we religious; this is not to mention the severe problems we had. In despite of this, I managed to do relatively well in hs and college so far. Furthermore, I have always been one truly curious son of a bitch. However, since last semester, including over this winter, I have been depressed, anxious and just de-motivated and without confidence. I feel like a failure in that I stopped doing work for those courses( out of anxiety and just lack of confidence). School has become my life, and when I don't study, I feel like a failure. I am trying to be more well rounded and do other things, but sometimes I am just left without motivation and confidence. My main concern right now though is how the hell to get some confidence in myself? I am dealing with the anxiety and depression( I don't need answers for that but I have always had a confidence issue. Does anyone know some good general techniques or strategies to get confidence up?

Unweighted GPA: 3.3 Weighted GPA: 3.8 SAT: (I don't take it until March, but I got a 1830 on my PSAT so I'm expecting somewhere around that range) Class Rank: Top 25% (out of 560) APs: Freshman: Human Geography Sophomore: American Government, World History Junior: English Language, Calculus AB, American History, Psychology, Comparative Govt. Senior: (if all goes as planned) English Literature, Latin, Statistics, Economy, Biology -Cross Country four years -Track four years -FCA- Freshman Year -Ecology Club- Sophomore Year -National English Honors Society -National Social Studies Honors Society -Service Club all four years -Latin Club since sophomore year, Vice President in junior year, 75% chance of being President as a senior I'm most likely going to go a state school like FSU, LSU, or Auburn, but I'd like to get into the Honors Programs there if possible, along with the slight possibility of Tulane. I still have one semester left of junior year to bring my GPA up, plus I'd be willing to do extra online classes this summer if needed. Just wanted an outsider's opinion, I feel like my friends/family are just telling me what I want to hear. Don't be TOO mean, but please tell me what I need to do! Thanks!
