Creating Silence from Chaos
by Leo
27 Jan 2012 at 3:20pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. We are often afraid of silence, because its emptiness feels idle, boring, unproductive, and scary. And so we fill our lives with chaos, noise, clutter. But silence can be lovely, and therapeutic, and powerful. It can be the remedy for our stress and the habits that crush us. If we [...]
The Habits That Crush Us
by Leo
23 Jan 2012 at 11:26am
‘Don’t panic.’ ~Douglas Adams Post written by Leo Babauta. Why is it that we cannot break the bad habits that stand in our way, crushing our desires to live a healthy life, be fit, simplify, be happier? How is it that our best intentions are nearly always beaten? We want to be focused and productive, [...]

‘All men’s miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.’ ~Blaise Pascal Post written by Leo Babauta. Think about some of the problems of our daily lives, and how many of them would be eased if we could learn to sit alone, in a quiet empty room, with contentment. If [...]

‘Everything is practice.’ ~Pele Post written by Leo Babauta. When we learn a martial art, or ballet, or gymnastics, or soccer ? we consciously practice movements in a deliberate way, repeatedly. Clearing Your Life for a New Year
by Leo
9 Jan 2012 at 12:55pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. Every January, people rush out and get a gym membership, set a list of goals or resolutions, and get ready to take on a new year of frenetic activity. Unfortunately, we don’t often clear space to make room for all this new stuff. The beginning of the year is a [...]

Post written by Leo Babauta. So you’ve been putting off tackling your clutter for months, maybe even years. How to Have the Best Year of Your Life (without Setting a Single Goal)
by guest
5 Jan 2012 at 9:15am
Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Jeff Goins of Goins, Writer. This new year, do something different: stop setting goals. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, then making resolutions for another year is a sure-fire way to drive yourself crazy. I did [...]

New Start

Here is your Tuesday STORY on: Where are you going to be in the near future? Wisdom rarely tries to equip you for your future, other than promotes the virtues of planning. However, the one important factor that has so many attributes is to get the period right NOW under control and everything that emanates from it will be good. So it would appear to follow that if you wanted a bright and successful future, all you need to do is to start getting the NOW under control. How you perceive the NOW is the plan for your future. Habit will take you where you've always been, break that habit and develop the NOW so your future improves. Today's story illustrates how we become blinkered in our approach. DO NOT ACT LIKE AN ELEPHANT! In India, elephants are used for manual labour. When an elephant is small and weighs approximately 200 pounds, it is securely tied with a heavy-duty rope. In between "jobs, " the elephant tries to break through its limitation. The calf whines and tugs and even tries to chew through the rope, but it is unable to break free. Finally, the elephant gives up its will. He accepts his circumstances. His spirit is broken. The elephant believes there is absolutely no chance to free himself and overcome his "limitation." This is recognized as a "defining moment." A defining moment is the exact moment one adopts/accepts a new belief that drastically alters their life. They accept this "new belief" as a "truth, " regardless if it is true or not. Because the brain accepts repetition of thought and deduction as "the truth, " the rope reigns sovereign not only in the calf's immediate environment, but in his mind as well. With this "belief" deeply embedded in the elephant's mind, his handler came up with an ingenious idea to permanently disempower him. He realized all that was needed was to tie the four-ton animal up with extremely small ropes and he would remain tied. You see in the elephant's mind, any size rope would keep him "securely confined." Do not act like an elephant. Size up and break through the confining ropes in your mind. When you're faced with change, change your perspective. When you're overwhelmed with something new; change your view. Use affirmations, to eradicate limitations and nothing will be impossible for you! (Fran Briggs) (Fran Briggs is the founder of the F. Briggs Group, Personal Growth Facilitators. She is the author of several books and over 300 articles including, "Set Yourself Up for Success!" Ms. Briggs is a "motivational speaker of the inspirational kind." She speaks to audiences of children and adults of all ages and backgrounds, with the aim of inspiring them to their respective levels of greatness.) QUOTE: "The best way to predict your future is to invent it.' (Alan Kay)

Can an AGW supporter prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the data is not flawed?
ok please prove my repeater science theory wrong and show+tell me the equiptment you have in order to prove AGW on your own without any information from outside government funded influences. Or do AGW supports realy on data from other institutes who have the proper equipment and then apply the laws of physics to prove its quality, remember if the source of data is flawed this would cause your conclusions to be flawed as well. Also those who say i have no evidence should understand what im posting is common knowledge available to all, if i were to post for example Barrack Obama is president of USA would I really have to post a website showing you the proof that obama is the president? Also I have provided lots of sources + exact phrases to type into google so you can find the information. Also I am sorry to offend people and name calling but in all fairness i have been ridiculed as well i am hoping we can get a fresh new start and allow me to show what i preach is complete TRUTH. Those who post 90% of scientist agree with AGW please show me when the governments of the world conducted a world wide census to ALL scientist that proves your statistics as correct or is it just a propaganda poll similar to the ones we see on fox news and CNN which show president obamas approval rating. thank you and sorry.

confused about man's behavior?
Okay, a man who I have been in a relationship for over 2 years with had a menal break and cheated on me at a massage parlor. Once he seemed to come out of that mental state, he said he was sorry and appeared to be over his hard time. I broke up with him and decided to move out of our house. Instead of appearing remoresful and sad for the loss of the relationship and of me, he instead seems cool, calm & collected & even happy for my 'new start' in a new place. He still wants to be with me, comes to see me often and takes me out on dates. He seems in love with me and interested in me. Yet, I don't understand his seeming happiness for me moving out. We no longer get to snuggle, sleep together, see each other every day..this saddens me so, yet when I got teary eyed over it one night, he said 'what am I supposed to do about it?'. We are still technically 'single' yet do all the things that entail a relationship...we don't say we love each other because he says we need to trust each other again before we can say those words....but man, I am confused....anybody who can translate all this behavior, please do so! I love this man and want to do the right things for us to get onto a good track.
