Post written by Leo Babauta. Before I learned how to change habits, I was stuck. Mood Disorders

Here is your Monday STORY on: LOVE: Do you love the beauty of your partner or the beauty of their soul? When you are sat in another room and can hear your partner talking to your children, inspiring them for a day at school; do you think of their face or find that a quiver tickles your soul in recognition of their beauty? We must never forget when a moment of love can make a big difference in someone's life. You may not be aware of the intention of a particular action, but suddenly realise that the action will transpire into a moment to cherish. Often an instant, intuitive gut reaction can be an affection of love that is deep and meaningful. Today's story is about the love of both a family and a child. Please enjoy and see the numerous intuitive reactions and how love flows through each. THE ICE CREAM PRAYER Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!" Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!" Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?" As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer." "Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart." Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes." The elderly gentleman placed a few coins on the table and said, 'Allow me the pleasure of buying your children ice cream.' I quickly considered the value of this offer as normally I would have refused his grateful offer, but it seemed more of a symbol than an offering. When the ice cream arrived at the table, my son stared at this for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes, and my soul is good already." (Unknown Author) QUOTE: "Remember, that if thou marry for beauty, thou bindest thyself all thy life for that which perchance will neither last nor please thee one year; and when thou hast it, it will be to thee of no price at all; for the desire dieth when it was attained, and the affection perisheth when it is satisfied.' Headache with vision problems, help?
I'm a 22 year old female college student. I believe I'm decently healthy; I weigh 135, and I'm physically active for the most part (I walk to and from class; a 20 minute walk on a hill) and I play rec soccer at least once a week for an hour. Yesterday, 3/15/2012, I had this weird thing appear in my field of vision. It's really hard to describe, but I'll try to: it's a line -- sometimes it's straight, sometimes it's curved -- that kind of looks like it's moving. It's sort of like if you look at glass, and there's a crack in it, only within that crack is blurry movement, like TV static. I hope that made sense. Anyway, this weird line starts out small and in whatever shape, and it grows larger and moves up before it disappears. While this is going on, I have difficulty seeing things, but only in the area where the line is. This is only in the left side of my field of vision, and it affects bother eyes (when the line appeared I closed one eye to see if the line would disappear and it didn't). This strange line of vision lasted about 10-15 minutes and it went away. Also, during this vision anomaly, I get this piercing headache. It's ONLY on the right side of my head. It starts out at the top of my head (the right parietal lobe, for you health professionals out there), and at it's worst, it extends straight down to the front of my skull, down the forehead to my right eyeball. Coughing and anything else that involves some sort of bearing down (like a Valsalva maneuver) makes this headache exponentially worse, and lasts long beyond the vision problem disappearing, sometimes up to a few hours before it fades away. Now I thought yesterday that perhaps it was some sort of stress headache or related to a chest cold I recently recovered from, or even a fluke, but it happened happened earlier this morning during my 11am class. I'm still suffering from this headache right now, actually. The pain's severe enough to go from the right side of my forehead back to the rich side of my neck. It's like a line of sharp, piercing pain, and I also feel slightly lightheaded as well, though I suspect it's due to this headache. I'm an athletic training major in my last semester in college, so I've learned a great deal about sports medicine, but I've never heard nor seen this before. And the fact that this headache afflicts only the right side of my head and the vision anomaly only occurs in the left side of the field of vision leads me to believe that something might be going on with my brain, so I'm a bit worried. In terms of medical history, I've had one diagnosed concussion, back in March 2010, and a possible milder concussion last September. I've never been diagnosed with any mental or mood disorders, and I've never taken any medication for mental or mood disorders. As of right now, I'm not taking any medication aside from my birth control, which I've been on since 2008. As far as I know, there is a history of mental health issues: my brother suffers from schizophrenia and Asperger's, and my sister has a mood disorder. My father was diagnosed with clinical depression, but we believe that he probably also had some sort of underlying, undiagnosed disorder that lied in the schizophrenia spectrum, such as schizoaffective disorder. Personally, I don't think my problem is psychologically related; rather, I believe it's a neurological problem. If anyone has any ideas of a possible diagnosis or suggestions as to what I should do, like a starting point for me, I would greatly appreciate In the meantime, I'll continue to keep track of this, and I'll add any new symptoms if they come up. Thanks again.
