Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Chris Guillebeau of ChrisGuillebeau.com. Imagine a life where all your time is spent on the things you want to do. Imagine giving your greatest attention to a project you create yourself, instead of working as a cog in a machine that exists to make other people rich. [...]

‘He who is contented is rich.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There has been little in my life that has made as much an impact as learning to be content — with my life, where I am, what I’m doing, what I have, who I’m with, who I am. This little trick changes [...]

‘Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life.’ ~Seneca Post written by Leo Babauta. I’m not a rich man, nor do I fly around the world and drink champagne with famous people in exotic locales, nor do I own a sports car or SUV or a yacht. And yet, [...]
What I?ve Learned About Learning

‘We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself.’ ~Lloyd Alexander Post written by Leo Babauta. I am a teacher and an avid learner, and I’m passionate about both. I’m a teacher because I help Eva homeschool our kids — OK, [...]

How to Fail at Habits
by Leo
24 Apr 2012 at 11:28am
Post written by Leo Babauta. Before I learned how to change habits, I was stuck. I kept trying to change various habits — running, eating healthier, waking earlier, getting out of debt, ending procrastination — and I kept failing. I got very good at failing, in fact. Looking back on those days, given the power [...]

Mistakes

Here is your Thursday STORY on: ADAPTING TO CHANGE: Adapting to change as I mention most weeks is about the fear of a 'What If' moment. As we know a WHAT IF is an ILLUSION, so what you are fearing is only an illusion. Most fear is about WHAT IF's. If we could only see how peculiar that fear actually is, we may have a route to overcome it. Another strong factor in amplifying fear is the tone in which we describe it. If you immediately respond to a situation and call it a problem, then sub-consciously you are dealing with a difficult situation. If you change that habit from calling something a problem to calling it a challenge, then life is sweeter as you can fire yourself up easier to deal with a challenge. Today's material is more of an excerpt from a book or a speech. The author is unknown, so it is difficult to attribute it to a particular occasion, but the words are strong enough to get the message across. END YOUR DIFFICULTIES Will today be a difficult day for you? That depends on whether or not you decide to make it one. Just about anything can be difficult when you make the active decision to consider it so. We often assume that things such as focused effort, discipline, commitment, and persistence are difficult, and as such are to be avoided if at all possible. Yet that is just an opinion. When you think about it, "difficult" and "easy" are very arbitrary terms. Thinking of something as difficult, just makes it that much more difficult. So what's the purpose of it? Imagine what would happen if instead of thinking, "This is hard work and I can just barely tolerate it, " you thought "This is necessary work and I'm thankful that I'm able to do it." Making judgments about whether something is difficult or easy doesn't contribute anything to the level of accomplishment. Stop categorizing tasks as difficult and you'll no longer have to do anything difficult. Just do what needs to be done and truly enjoy the fulfilling road to achievement. Can I repeat any 2 'kul surah' again in the first two rakats of farz namaz? I knew many surahs. but I forgot them. (may Allah forgive me for my mistake). if the answer to my question is no, i request you to plz provide me link to surah which I can pray after Alhamdo surat ( IN ENGLISH TEXT ONLY). Is it a sin to repeat the surah again? Only muslim brother and sisters should answer. plz help. :(

i feel like such a fuck up. i really need some moral support?
It seems like everything i do, i screw up. its seems the more i try, and the more good intentions i have, i always find some way to **** up! i am so pissed ugh!!!!! Excuse my language, but i really just need to get this out before i go crazy. so my latest big screw up: I somehow lost my drawstring gym bag. In it, was a pair of really nice $100 nikes that i paid with my own money, a $120 calculator, a one of a kind spirit shirt that I earned (valuable because i go to a school with a uniform, and we can wear spirit tops on friday), and a vocabulary book, which is due tomorrow and my teacher hates me. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! i am so angry/dissapointed/saddened by myself. Im extra mad because i remember bringing that gymbag out of my car, but now i cant find it in my house. I lost it a week ago and feel like i could have accidentally dropped it on my lawn while walking to the front door. BUT IT IS COMPLETELY GONE. i dont know what the **** happened and my parents are super pissed. i have gotten 2 other pairs of nice and needed shoes stolen this year. i cant continue to buy more ah i need some moral support. anybody else lose something and keep making mistakes? please help me im a freshman in highschool
