by guest
2 Feb 2012 at 9:20am
Editor’s Note: This is a guest post from Tyler Tervooren of Advanced Riskology. I used to have a lot of bad habits. I still do, but I used to have a lot more. Here?s just a small sampling: I woke up late and went to bed early. I procrastinated on my most important work. I [...]

The membership is a monthly subscription of $19.99, but really it’s a commitment to changing your life, and the tools needed to [...]
Creating Silence from Chaos
by Leo
27 Jan 2012 at 3:20pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. We are often afraid of silence, because its emptiness feels idle, boring, unproductive, and scary. And so we fill our lives with chaos, noise, clutter. But silence can be lovely, and therapeutic, and powerful. It can be the remedy for our stress and the habits that crush us. If we [...]
The Habits That Crush Us

‘Don’t panic.’ ~Douglas Adams Post written by Leo Babauta. Why is it that we cannot break the bad habits that stand in our way, crushing our desires to live a healthy life, be fit, simplify, be happier? How is it that our best intentions are nearly always beaten? We want to be focused and productive, [...]
Learning to Sit Alone, in a Quiet Empty Room
by Leo

‘All men’s miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.’ ~Blaise Pascal Post written by Leo Babauta. Think about some of the problems of our daily lives, and how many of them would be eased if we could learn to sit alone, in a quiet empty room, with contentment. If [...]
Life as a Conscious Practice

‘Everything is practice.’ ~Pele Post written by Leo Babauta. When we learn a martial art, or ballet, or gymnastics, or soccer ? we consciously practice movements in a deliberate way, repeatedly. By conscious, repeated practice, we become good at those movements. Our entire lives are like this, but we’re often less conscious of the practice. [...]

Clearing Your Life for a New Year
by Leo
9 Jan 2012 at 12:55pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. Every January, people rush out and get a gym membership, set a list of goals or resolutions, and get ready to take on a new year of frenetic activity. Unfortunately, we don’t often clear space to make room for all this new stuff. The beginning of the year is a [...]
How to Tackle Your Clutter
by Leo
6 Jan 2012 at 12:19pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. So you’ve been putting off tackling your clutter for months, maybe even years. Papers pile up on a counter, shelves are crammed full of books and magazines and other things, closets are stuffed to the point of spillage, clothes pile up on the floor or furniture, boxes and furniture and [...]
How to Have the Best Year of Your Life (without Setting a Single Goal)
by guest
5 Jan 2012 at 9:15am
Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Jeff Goins of Goins, Writer. This new year, do something different: stop setting goals. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, then making resolutions for another year is a sure-fire way to drive yourself crazy. I did [...]

Little Things That Make People Happy

Here is your Friday STORY on: HAPPINESS: If you are not happy all of the time, then at least be assured that this is how most people exist. It is how most of us seem to perceive our humdrum existence. Yet however, we can improve this ratio of understanding with practice. With a steady progress we can also become skilful at being happy for longer and more often. Let me explain with a story how easy it is to approach life in the wrong manner. If you can raise a smile at this story, you'll be aware that this type of anger exists within your own soul. REVENGE ...Once upon a time, there was a wise man who insisted that to live well, one had to be positive and thankful for all of life. One day, a traveller came to him and said, 'How can I be positive? Nothing goes right in life! I've been badly hurt by people I have trusted, and now I want revenge!' The wise man shook his head. 'What would you do to those that hurt you?' he asked. 'I'd tear them limb from limb... I'd ruin their business... I'd...' and he broke off. 'Can you help me get revenge?' he begged. 'Yes'' said the wise man. 'I'll certainly help you, but first you must do two things for me.' 'I will, ' said the traveller. 'First, ' said the wise man, 'I want you to tear a branch off that tree over there.' The traveller readily went to the tree and twisted off a large branch. 'There you are! What's the second thing?' The wise man smiled. 'Now put it back, ' he said. The traveller stood staring. 'I can't do that, ' he said. 'No, ' said the wise man. 'So remember this; it's very easy to wound and destroy, but it is more difficult to repair the damage that has been done. Note that the tree won't hurt you back. It will go on growing and bearing fruit. It's much better to be creative than destructive - - even to people that have hurt you.'... For every moment you want revenge, and then realise it is both pitiful and destructive, there is a moment of sweetness soon after; as you settle for a positive attitude instead of a negative. Rather than wallow in your own sadness, rejoice in the skill you have developed to overcome your revenge. (Unknown Author) QUOTE: 'Just as a trainer disciplines and calms a wild and wilful steed by subjecting it to skilful and prolonged training, so must the wild, wandering, random activities of body and speech be tamed to make them docile, righteous and skilful.' (His Holiness the Dalai Lama).

ACTUAL Philosophy Question? Discussion? Thoughts?
Alright if money really is a "New World Order" it has the little demonic sign and everything i think it will eventually come down to that. In today's world you can't do anything without money. I guess you could walk to different towns and just be like a drifter, but who brought up in the USA would ever do such a ridiculous thing without money? So every person I have ever met in my life uses money to buy food, gas, rent, mortgage, etc. But every poor person I have met is usually just struggling to make sure food is on the table every night and they'll be able to stay in their home for the next couple months. Why is it that we as Americans always have to separate ourselves from them and instead of helping people get the mandatory essentials of life, we blow our money on personal material things to make us MORE comfortable than we already are. Every child in America requires CONSTANT stimulation, and we are aloud to have it here... (video games, television, etc.) If there was just a free Family Fun Recreation center in every town it would probably be a lot easier to just relax and have fun. I mean instead of 5000 people in a city saving up to buy video games, maybe a boat, and all these other little things that make people happy, why not just have a recreation center where people could actually just use the utilities whenever they want, maybe meet some people? Just keep adding more and more to it then EVERYONE can use these stupid things that make us bored so quickly. As a community I think people should be able to support an idea like this. Most people who have a boat use it for a little while then it just sits at the dock because they got tired of going on it all the time. WHY can't we just do this to all people? Have a free recreation center in many towns and give people that don't even have a chance to afford luxuries a place they can experience them. The boat was just an example I know most lakes would get ridiculously crowded and such, but expensive activities that the common man can't afford. In todays society Money = Power. Want someone to do something for you? Bribe them. Everyone in office has a price and there are so many corporations that can change laws like nothing. Then with China's population growing while our debt is growing with it. Almost everything I see always says Made In China, its on almost everything, if china just wanted to call in their debt what would they do? Storm california with their BILLIONS of soldiers and take our homes away? Its legal right? Yeah the U.S could out up a good fight but think about how many people there are in china... So I guess I'm just venting paranoia on money turning into the new world order. One day money is going to rule everything. I imagine it coming to the point where if someone does not have any money, they will die. therefore Money=Life and as human race we will be self classified as material. Also I believe that people that we make rich, should find a way to give back. Money = Power if you have money you should have the responsibility of that power and help people who don't have any. I see no reason why people horde it away in their digital piles. If you can then best supporting description wins. If you can't imagine anything I said best description of why I'm stupid wins. What do you think? another question lost in history
