Editor’s Note: This is a guest post from Tyler Tervooren of Advanced Riskology. I used to have a lot of bad habits. I still do, but I used to have a lot more. Here?s just a small sampling: I woke up late and went to bed early. I procrastinated on my most important work. I [...]

The membership is a monthly subscription of $19.99, but really it’s a commitment to changing your life, and the tools needed to [...]
Creating Silence from Chaos
by Leo
27 Jan 2012 at 3:20pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. We are often afraid of silence, because its emptiness feels idle, boring, unproductive, and scary. And so we fill our lives with chaos, noise, clutter. But silence can be lovely, and therapeutic, and powerful. It can be the remedy for our stress and the habits that crush us. If we [...]
The Habits That Crush Us

‘Don’t panic.’ ~Douglas Adams Post written by Leo Babauta. Why is it that we cannot break the bad habits that stand in our way, crushing our desires to live a healthy life, be fit, simplify, be happier? How is it that our best intentions are nearly always beaten? We want to be focused and productive, [...]

by Leo

‘All men’s miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.’ ~Blaise Pascal Post written by Leo Babauta. Think about some of the problems of our daily lives, and how many of them would be eased if we could learn to sit alone, in a quiet empty room, with contentment. If [...]
Life as a Conscious Practice

‘Everything is practice.’ ~Pele Post written by Leo Babauta. When we learn a martial art, or ballet, or gymnastics, or soccer ? we consciously practice movements in a deliberate way, repeatedly. By conscious, repeated practice, we become good at those movements. Our entire lives are like this, but we’re often less conscious of the practice. [...]

Clearing Your Life for a New Year
by Leo
9 Jan 2012 at 12:55pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. Every January, people rush out and get a gym membership, set a list of goals or resolutions, and get ready to take on a new year of frenetic activity. Unfortunately, we don’t often clear space to make room for all this new stuff. The beginning of the year is a [...]

Post written by Leo Babauta. So you’ve been putting off tackling your clutter for months, maybe even years. How to Have the Best Year of Your Life (without Setting a Single Goal)
by guest
5 Jan 2012 at 9:15am
Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Jeff Goins of Goins, Writer. This new year, do something different: stop setting goals. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, then making resolutions for another year is a sure-fire way to drive yourself crazy. I did [...]

Here is your Sunday STORY on: LOVE OF WISDOM When the going gets tough there is a point where many would give in and say the task in hand is too difficult. Most of every day there are tasks and duties that are tedious and considerations are made to leave the job until tomorrow. Ask yourself whether it's the job that's tedious or is it your frame of mind that feels more tired than your limbs? This form of lethargy has so much to answer for; it can prevent mountains being moved and dishes on the sink from being washed. It can prevent us accomplishing a task that normally would be within our range. This lethargy in the mind destroys ambition, intimidates our enthusiasm and drains our energy tank; when in actual fact it is just a state of mind as our body is fit enough to continue. We must have a belief that we can overcome this lethargy; we must have a faith that we can conquer our weariness. This faith, this belief can fire our engines beyond the norm and provide us with so many victories. Rather than be a prisoner of our mood we must SEE the mind in action and witness its control. In doing this we can fight its effect. Faith in what is right is a major driving force and can almost create an aura around our whole being; as if we have a greater presence. Our godliness will almost protect our life like an eggshell. In today's story we see a missionary emanate with goodness and with a loving nature, and perhaps it was this that created a weird and wonderful event in protection. BE SAFE WITH FAITH A missionary on furlough told this true story while visiting his home church in Michigan... "While serving at a small field hospital in Africa, every two weeks I travelled by bicycle through the jungle to a nearby city for supplies. This was a journey of two days and required camping overnight at the halfway point. On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city where I planned to collect money from a bank, purchase medicine and supplies, and then begin my two-day journey back to the field hospital. Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting, one of whom had been seriously injured. I treated him for his injuries and at the same time talked to him about the Lord. I then travelled two days, camping overnight, and arrived home without incident. Two weeks later I repeated my journey. Upon arriving in the city, I was approached by the young man I had treated. He told me that he had known I carried money and medicines. He said, 'Some friends and I followed you into the jungle, knowing you would camp overnight. We planned to kill you and take your money and drugs. But just as we were about to move into your camp, we saw that you were surrounded by 26 armed guards. At this, I laughed and said that I was certainly all alone in that jungle campsite. The young man pressed the point, however, and said, 'No sir, I was not the only person to see the guards. My five friends also saw them, and we all counted them. It was because of those guards that we were afraid and left you alone. (Unknown Author) QUOTE: "A leader, once convinced that a particular course of action is the right one, must... be undaunted when the going gets tough.' (Ronald Reagan)

Am I just being anxious?
Hi guys, I can't tell if I'm just suffering from a form of anxiety, or whether something is really up. I'm 22 years old, currently unemployed living with 4 friends. I have quite a clean bill of health, nothing major anyway, few broken limbs, a couple of hernias and I suffer from migraines, even though I smoke (10-15 a day) I play football (soccer) regularly and haven't had much problem with that. Yet for the past few days I haven't felt all there. I'm not entirely sure how to explain this. It sort of feels like I'm slightly high, but nothing like a Marijuana high. Just everything is sort of hazy. Along with this I've noticed small throbbing pains, but only very occasionally and they last a matter of about 20 seconds in the back of my head. They're not really painful though, and nothing compared to a migraine or a bad headache. Onto the next point. I used to have panic attacks though they were never treated, they never happened very often, probably once or twice a year from the age of 11-14, then my Dad died and they became more frequent for a couple of years, going through phases of getting one a day for a week or so to not noticing them at all for 6 or so months then It got back to how it had been before, very rarely noticeable and I didn't pay them much thought at all. Now however, whilst I'm not getting panic attacks as such, I am getting short sudden bursts of dread that wash over me and last a second or two at tops. This is what's making me think I'm just being anxious. These happen at random times though, I don't have to be thinking about anything related and it just happens, probably 6-8 times a day for the past few days. I think for my age I eat healthily and I'm in pretty good shape. I just thought I'd get some views on whether or not this is worth going to the Doctors about, or is it that I'm just being anxious for little to no reason? Many thanks :) Note. I haven't smoked weed in years, and I've never been a pot head. Can count on one hand the amount of times I did get high, but I know the feeling.

Medical School Admissions and Disciplinary Record?
I will apply to medical schools in the near future, but I received a minor disciplinary sanction during my undergrad years. Below is a explanation of what happened. "During junior year of college, I would frequently vent my emotions openly on Facebook when I was frustrated or stressed out. I posted Facebook statements that exposed my raw feelings, and many people were concerned about my wellbeing. A dean became aware of these statements, and to help me manage my stress and express my emotions healthfully, she referred me to counseling and required me to maintain a therapeutic relationship with a clinician. Initially, I didn?t take full advantage of this valuable service, and my wellbeing didn?t improve much. At the end of junior year, I slept through a counseling appointment and didn?t reschedule on a timely basis. Consequently, I was found responsible for ?failure to comply? with the university directive that I actively engage with counseling. I received a disciplinary warning for this violation. I took full responsibilities and began to interact more proactively with counseling. As a result, I learned how to effectively manage my stress and greatly improved my emotional health. I also realized that while it is legal to say certain things on Facebook, some statements will invariably cause concern and trigger a response. From this experience, I became a more mature, sensitive, and amiable person." I am asking, will this hurt my chances? Most have been telling me that it wont be anything more than a minor road bump. Thanks!

help on sisters (Adults) And Who is jealous?
3 sisters. 2 went to really good universities. but the 3rd went to a school that's good but not nearly as good as the other two, but she got into a field that makes a lot more than her sisters. now they've all graduated college. so the one that went to the not as good university, got into a health care field that just makes a lot more than the other 2. is there going to be jealousy in any of the sisters? Who? -2 that went to good universities didnt pick majors that get jobs. so that's why they make a lot less. Just wondering because my family can be intense I'll just tell u guys. I'm the third one. my sisters and mom are all close, but my two sisters =both in graduate school dont have any friends, singled out status. I have a lot of friends in school, i'm not saying popularity matters but I think my family causes drama and is manipualtive. It drives me crazy. My 2 sisters not having friends in graduate school made me think I'm not the only one who doesnt get along with them. lol @ maria. I'm sorry its long u guys. I dont feel good. I'll try & help u.. my families all competitive on money. Yeah they like it but they are very salary driven. Yes one is doing is for the money and admits to that.
