Creating Silence from Chaos
by Leo
27 Jan 2012 at 3:20pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. We are often afraid of silence, because its emptiness feels idle, boring, unproductive, and scary. And so we fill our lives with chaos, noise, clutter. But silence can be lovely, and therapeutic, and powerful. It can be the remedy for our stress and the habits that crush us. If we [...]
The Habits That Crush Us

‘Don’t panic.’ ~Douglas Adams Post written by Leo Babauta. Why is it that we cannot break the bad habits that stand in our way, crushing our desires to live a healthy life, be fit, simplify, be happier? How is it that our best intentions are nearly always beaten? We want to be focused and productive, [...]

‘All men’s miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.’ ~Blaise Pascal Post written by Leo Babauta. Think about some of the problems of our daily lives, and how many of them would be eased if we could learn to sit alone, in a quiet empty room, with contentment. If [...]
Life as a Conscious Practice

‘Everything is practice.’ ~Pele Post written by Leo Babauta. When we learn a martial art, or ballet, or gymnastics, or soccer ? we consciously practice movements in a deliberate way, repeatedly. By conscious, repeated practice, we become good at those movements. Our entire lives are like this, but we’re often less conscious of the practice. [...]

Clearing Your Life for a New Year
by Leo
9 Jan 2012 at 12:55pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. Every January, people rush out and get a gym membership, set a list of goals or resolutions, and get ready to take on a new year of frenetic activity. Unfortunately, we don’t often clear space to make room for all this new stuff. The beginning of the year is a [...]

by Leo
6 Jan 2012 at 12:19pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. So you’ve been putting off tackling your clutter for months, maybe even years. Papers pile up on a counter, shelves are crammed full of books and magazines and other things, closets are stuffed to the point of spillage, clothes pile up on the floor or furniture, boxes and furniture and [...]
How to Have the Best Year of Your Life (without Setting a Single Goal)
by guest
5 Jan 2012 at 9:15am
Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Jeff Goins of Goins, Writer. This new year, do something different: stop setting goals. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, then making resolutions for another year is a sure-fire way to drive yourself crazy. I did [...]

Happier Life

Here is your Sunday STORY on: LOVE OF WISDOM When the going gets tough there is a point where many would give in and say the task in hand is too difficult. Most of every day there are tasks and duties that are tedious and considerations are made to leave the job until tomorrow. Ask yourself whether it's the job that's tedious or is it your frame of mind that feels more tired than your limbs? This form of lethargy has so much to answer for; it can prevent mountains being moved and dishes on the sink from being washed. It can prevent us accomplishing a task that normally would be within our range. This lethargy in the mind destroys ambition, intimidates our enthusiasm and drains our energy tank; when in actual fact it is just a state of mind as our body is fit enough to continue. We must have a belief that we can overcome this lethargy; we must have a faith that we can conquer our weariness. This faith, this belief can fire our engines beyond the norm and provide us with so many victories. Rather than be a prisoner of our mood we must SEE the mind in action and witness its control. In doing this we can fight its effect. Faith in what is right is a major driving force and can almost create an aura around our whole being; as if we have a greater presence. Our godliness will almost protect our life like an eggshell. In today's story we see a missionary emanate with goodness and with a loving nature, and perhaps it was this that created a weird and wonderful event in protection. BE SAFE WITH FAITH A missionary on furlough told this true story while visiting his home church in Michigan... "While serving at a small field hospital in Africa, every two weeks I travelled by bicycle through the jungle to a nearby city for supplies. This was a journey of two days and required camping overnight at the halfway point. On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city where I planned to collect money from a bank, purchase medicine and supplies, and then begin my two-day journey back to the field hospital. Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting, one of whom had been seriously injured. I treated him for his injuries and at the same time talked to him about the Lord. I then travelled two days, camping overnight, and arrived home without incident. Two weeks later I repeated my journey. Upon arriving in the city, I was approached by the young man I had treated. He told me that he had known I carried money and medicines. He said, 'Some friends and I followed you into the jungle, knowing you would camp overnight. We planned to kill you and take your money and drugs. But just as we were about to move into your camp, we saw that you were surrounded by 26 armed guards. At this, I laughed and said that I was certainly all alone in that jungle campsite. The young man pressed the point, however, and said, 'No sir, I was not the only person to see the guards. My five friends also saw them, and we all counted them. It was because of those guards that we were afraid and left you alone. what's the name of this song, but it's not "actually" a song?
It's more like a positive influence song to those out there who are down and out and need a chin up on life. The guy speaks through out the whole entire time speaking positive words such as "dont worry about what you want to be when you're older, there are poeple who are 50 and still don't know what they wish to be"...or..."talk to people and smile when you can"....or...."tell those whom love you, that you love them".....or...."don't let people get you down, they're probably just as miserable as you are,if not,more"......those aren't the direct quotes from this "song",but it's close enough. The whole entire message during this 5 mins song? is about keeping your chin up,express yourself more, live a happier life. It's a guy talking the whole time,so it's not really an actual song, but it was a common thing to hear on the radio 10-14 years ago. There WAS some melody, peaceful music in the back ground. anyone know what song i'm referring to about? I'd really like to know who it was on that song cause i want to hear it,again.
