Grief Counseling

Here is your Tuesday STORY on: SELF DEVELOPMENT There are several areas of self development that are essential, but there is one aspect, almost like a wild card, that can add to your result or endeavour twenty fold. That is to be enthused. It is difficult to teach being enthusiastic as it is a quality that can ebb and flow with different subjects. It is more of a case of getting the subject you need developing and twist its meaning until every cog within your mind clicks into gear. A more of a recognition that the task in hand is within your reach; all that is needed is a few pounds more strength and energy than the average person; and are you average or better than average? Enthusiasm comes more from a state of mind rather than a teaching. If you are presented with a problem, your lethargy will dismiss it for another day, your eagerness will rush into a poor decision. Enthusiasm is a collection of energy from a calm centre. The eagerness is controlled with a calculated edge, a disciplined mind and a structured plan. In today's story we see a desperate teacher and parents; but never underestimate the power of the mind, enthusiasm doesn't need to be full of speed but full of calculation. THE EMPTY EGG Jeremy was born with a twisted body and a slow mind. At the age of 12 he was still in second grade, seemingly unable to learn. His teacher, Doris Miller, often became exasperated with him. He would squirm in his seat, drool, and make grunting noises. At other times, he spoke clearly and distinctly, as if a spot of light had penetrated the darkness of his brain. Most of the time, however, Jeremy just irritated his teacher. One day she called his parents and asked them to come in for a consultation. As the Forresters entered the empty classroom, Doris said to them, "Jeremy really belongs in a special school. It isn't fair to him to be with younger children who don't have learning problems. Why, there is a five year gap between his age and that of the other students." Mrs. Forrester cried softly into a tissue, while her husband spoke. "Miss Miller, " he said, "there is no school of that kind nearby. It would be a terrible shock for Jeremy if we had to take him out of this school. We know he really likes it here." Doris sat for a long time after they had left, staring at the snow outside the window. Its coldness seemed to seep into her soul. She wanted to sympathize with the Forresters. After all, their only child had a terminal illness. But it wasn't fair to keep him in her class. She had 18 other youngsters to teach, and Jeremy was a distraction. Furthermore, he would never learn to read and write. Why waste any more time trying? As she pondered the situation, guilt washed over her. Here I am complaining when my problems are nothing compared to that poor family, she thought. Lord, please help me to be more patient with Jeremy. From that day on, she tried hard to ignore Jeremy's noises and his blank stares. Then one day, he limped to her desk, dragging his bad leg behind him. "I love you, Miss Miller, " he exclaimed, loud enough for the whole class to hear. The other students snickered, and Doris' face turned red. She stammered, "Wh-why that's very nice, Jeremy. N-now please take your seat." Spring came, and the children talked excitedly about the coming of Easter. Doris told them the story of Jesus, and then to emphasize the idea of new life springing forth, she gave each of the children a large plastic egg. "Now, " she said to them, "I want you to take this home and bring it back tomorrow with something inside that shows new life. Do you understand?" "Yes, Miss Miller, " the children responded enthusiastically - all except for Jeremy. He listened intently; his eyes never left her face. He did not even make his usual noises. Had he understood what she had said about Jesus' death and resurrection? Did he understand the assignment? Perhaps she should call his parents and explain the project to them. That evening, Doris' kitchen sink stopped up. She called the landlord and waited an hour for him to come by and unclog it. After that, she still had to shop for groceries, iron a blouse, and prepare a vocabulary test for the next day. She completely forgot about phoning Jeremy's parents. The next morning, 19 children came to school, laughing and talking as they placed their eggs in the large wicker basket on Miss Miller's desk. After they completed their math lesson, it was time to open the eggs. In the first egg, Doris found a flower. "Oh yes, a flower is certainly a sign of new life, " she said. "When plants peek through the ground, we know that spring is here." A small girl in the first row waved her arm. "That's my egg, Miss Miller, " she called out. The next egg contained a plastic butterfly, which looked very real. Doris held it up. "We all know that a caterpillar changes and grows into a beautiful butterfly. Yes, that's new life, too." Little Judy smiled proudly and said, "Miss Miller, that one is mine." Next, Doris found a rock with moss on it. She explained that moss, too, showed life. Billy spoke up from the back of the classroom, "My daddy helped me, " he beamed. Then Doris opened the fourth egg. She gasped. The egg was empty. Surely it must be Jeremy's she thought, and of course, he did not understand her instructions. If only she had not forgotten to phone his parents. Because she did not want to embarrass him, she quietly set the egg aside and reached for another. Suddenly, Jeremy spoke up. "Miss Miller, aren't you going to talk about my egg?" Flustered, Doris replied, "But Jeremy, your egg is empty." He looked into her eyes and said softly, "Yes, but Jesus' tomb was empty, too." Time stopped. When she could speak again, Doris asked him, "Do you know why the tomb was empty?" "Oh, yes, " Jeremy said, "Jesus was killed and put in there. Then His Father raised Him up." The recess bell rang. While the children excitedly ran out to the school yard, Doris cried. The cold inside her melted completely away. Three months later, Jeremy died. Those who paid their respects at the mortuary were surprised to see 19 eggs on top of his casket, all of them empty. Have a blessed day! (Unknown Author) QUOTE: "Every memorable act in the history of the world is a triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it because it gives any challenge or any occupation, no matter how frightening or difficult, a new meaning. Without enthusiasm you are doomed to a life of mediocrity but with it you can accomplish miracles.' (Og Mandino, 1923 - 1996, Author and speaker) [[ct]]: Grief Counseling

What do you think of my TV Show?
Genre: Teen Drama Logline: Follows lives of teens that are going through all different kinds of therapy. Characters: A ? finds it hard expressing herself, Art Therapy. B- Feels like she is being blocked by Feminism, Feminism Therapy. C- Lost her mother to cancer, Grief Counselling. D ? Her parents want her to have children and stay straight, Conversion therapy. © Ursula Kane. Don't steal my ideas. The group of characters interact with each other while at the treatment center. And some meet up outside their therapy. I think people would watch it because they could relate to it e.g: loss of a loved one, Pushy parents, Feminism and being a lesbian.

How to write or create a plot?
I need to know how to develop a good plot for my novel. I feel a little bit worried about my plot. Is it weak. Plot: Four teenagers attend different types of therapy in the same therapy center. Laura, a 16 year old, regularly attends therapy to help her get out her anger. She feels like she is being blocked by Feminism. Her mother dresses like a street walker and acts like a porn star. She embarrasses her so much. Starting her first job at a local corner shop, she soon learns her Mexican boss is one of the most feminism guys out there. He tells her to unbutton her lower button and stick her chest out. She feels angry and disgusted. Her co-worker tries to flirt with her but she blocks him out. Riley, is a seventeen year old, who lost his mother to cancer. He hasn't fully grasped what has happened. He and his six year old sister had to move in with their alcoholic father. Basically Toby is the parent to his sister as he takes her to school and makes dinner. His fathers girlfriend, Marla thirty year old, brings him to the therapy center. He gets signed up for some grief counselling. Samantha, a fifteen year old, is secretly a lesbian who is best friends with a typical dumb blonde. Her friend makes fun of this emo girl, who Samantha secretly has a crush on. Secects surround the emo girl, Jasmine, and will have a huge impact on her life. While celebrating her sixteenth birthday party, Samantha secretly sneaks Jasmine up into her bedroom. Samantha discovers marks on Jasmine's wrists. Samantha asks who what happened but Jasmine doesn't tell. She instead kisses Samantha. Searching for Samantha to cut her cake, her mother finds them both kissing. She doesn't interrupt, but decides to go back downstairs. Forward two weeks later, Samantha's mother has signed her up for Sexual Conversion therapy. Samantha is shocked her mother knows she is a lesbian, but is hurt at her trying to change her. Melisa, a seventeen year old, always gets into fights at school due to others taunting her. She is beautiful and is really pretty, but she decides to ignore her looks. When ever she gets angry she likes to paint. After getting into another fight, she runs into a art classroom and starts to paint. Teacher watches her outside the door, and decides she needs to go to art therapy at the center. Riley and Melisa will slowly fall in love. At the center Melisa is asked to paint a portrait of Riley's deceased mother so she can place it in his new home. She agrees and they start to get deep and personal. Laura will also slowly fall in love with her co-worker. Samantha will face her mother going to extreme lengths to try and change her sexuality. e.g exposing her daughter as a lesbian in school, thinking she would change her mind. Jasmine will have a deep and dark storyline. It is in no way typical or expected. An emo having cuts on their wrists doesn't mean self-harm. Her storyline will be sad and just like Samantha's a struggle. Jasmine and Samantha's relationship will be strained. But maybe become fixed once her secret is revealed. What do you think of my plot for my novel? Weak? Rubbish? Good? Bad? Terrible? Awesome? Please tell me what you think.
