INTRODUCTION to our subject

Steps to

Happiness

I thought it appropriate that the next few articles should mirror the content of the book I'm writing.

I hope you enjoy...

Excerpt...

QUOTE: 'The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.' (William H. Ward).

Finding true happiness is a very personal journey.

There isn't a simple set of guidelines to give you happiness, because every individual finds happiness in different things. But the purpose of this book is to explore a different realm of understanding.

What may trigger sadness in one person could trigger happiness in another. So rather than look at specific events we shall need to look at varying emotive subjects and explore their potential.

Amongst other things I shall introduce a few concepts about 'being happy' that you have forgotten existed...

I say forgotten deliberately because we all possess a happy spirit, but sometimes we forget how to trigger it into action.

_______________________________________

I'm sure that you are aware that happiness can be triggered into action. Rarely will you feel you need this trigger until you acknowledge that you're not happy.

Imagine for a moment a recent occasion of sadness. As you do this your recollection may make this memory so vivid that you'll feel a flood of sadness returning. Stop this memory immediately.

It will follow as a matter of consequence that if you experience the sensations of a previous sadness you're also likely to encounter a similar emotional behaviour if you are to remember a period of happiness.

We've all been travelling alone in a busy environment and suddenly remembered an incident that happened earlier that day which brought a huge smile to your face. So big was the smile that you felt embarrassed and quickly checked around if anybody saw your surprising behaviour.

Rather than allow that embarrassed feeling, we should cherish the moment. This moment has POWER!

Excerpt...

QUOTE: 'It is self-evident that a generous heart and wholesome actions lead to a greater peace. It is equally clear that their negative counterparts bring undesirable consequences. Happiness arises from virtuous causes. If we truly desire to be happy, there is no other way to proceed but by way of virtue.' (Dalai Lama)

QUOTE: 'The good news is that a GREAT LIFE is available to each and every one of us. Living well and making a difference do not require money, fame or power. Living well is about taking time to live your own life on your own terms. It's about caring and sharing, about loving and dancing, and sharing a meal with a friend, or with a stranger. Life is short - give it your very best, every day!'
(Philip Humbert).

How much effort do we need to apply to achieve greater happiness?

Do we dedicate time to plan and plot our next period of happiness, or do we allow our perception to see happiness in everything?

It is a misconception that we need to ADD to achieve more happiness; LETTING GO can be the better approach. Generally speaking we can all remember how happy we were as a child, it is with the ADDING that life becomes complex and subsequently more confusing.

Happiness is therefore more about letting go than plotting and planning your future.

Plotting and planning has its place but it needs to be embraced with happiness and not squeezed from a part empty tube by a negative emotion.

Consider this... One third of our life we go through a period of letting go, but we forget that we do it. When we go to sleep and wake up, we let go of the day or the dream.

Working hard to achieve happiness will work in time, but you'll experience a rollercoaster ride; all you really need to do is to practice letting go? It is a process of 'non doing'...

QUOTE: 'One of the most sublime experiences we can ever have is to wake up feeling healthy after we have been sick.'

(Rabbi Harold Kushner)

One of the most important aspects of improving your happiness is to understand that the quality of your decision is dependent upon your state of mind. If happy your decisions are good, if sad then your decisions could trap you into a period of negative decisions. Allow these next few stories illustrate the decisions you make under pressure.

2. STORY 1

THE PREACHER

A preacher wanted to visit an elderly person in his congregation, but when he arrived in her neighbourhood, there was nowhere to park. He drove around and finally, in frustration, he parked in a red zone. Not wanting a ticket, he took out a piece of church stationary and wrote a brief note.

"I have driven around the block ten times and there is no place to park. I have an urgent appointment. Forgive us our trespasses. -Pastor Williams."

Upon returning to his car, he found a parking ticket and an attached note that said, "Dear Pastor, I have driven around this block for ten years, and if I don't give you a ticket, I will lose my job. Lead us not into temptation."
-Officer Steve.

3. Story 2

WRAPPING PAPER

The story goes that some time ago, a man punished his 5-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and he became even more upset when the child pasted the gold paper so as to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.

Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her Father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy."

The father was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found the box was empty. He spoke to her in a harsh manner: "Don't you know, young Lady, when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?

The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said: "Daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses into it until it was full."

The father was crushed. He fell on his knees and put his arms around his little girl, and he begged her to forgive him for his unnecessary anger.

An accident took the life of the child only a short time later and it is told that the father kept that gold box by his bed for all the years of his life. And whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems he would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us as human beings have been given a golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family, friends and God.

There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.

5: RESPONDING TO YOUR QUESTIONS:

QUESTION: 'At my place of work I meet many people with different emotions and often they pull me into their realm. What can I do?'

ANSWER: Life is a reflection of you. If you are sad, then no doubt the people you meet will be sad, somehow you don't see the happy people pass you by. If you are happy on the other hand your blinkers are removed and you see everyone.

If you are weak and can't easily identify your state of mind, you'll soak up the emotion of the next person your meet. These are generally negative emotions. If you are happy, a strong and powerful emotion, you'll be the one to change a situation.

THE MOUNTAIN STORY

A son and his father were walking on the mountains.
Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain:
"AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?"
Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"
He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"
The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."
And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"
The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"
The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand.
Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.
It gives you back everything you say or do.
Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.
If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart.
If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.
This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;
Life will give you back everything you have given to it."

And the moral to this story...
YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!

Why My Story Will Shock You... And How After What Seemed To Be An Endless 48 Month Battle, I Eventually Understood the Magic of Happiness.

I'm extremely relieved that you've found my web page because not only will my story shock you, it'll almost certainly save your health, your money as well as a lot of time and heart ache.

HERE IS WHAT I FOUND...

HERE IS WHAT EVERYONE FOUND IT DID...

HERE IS HOW TO GET IT...

We'll start with:

HERE IS WHAT I FOUND...

I have experienced the difficulties of life, sorrow, sadness, depression, heartache, pain, grief, anxiety, panic, fear, anger, frustration and misery... I almost felt as if I was walking about with a ball and chain around my leg. I was a desperate man.

My expertise and my career was lost, my finances got out of hand, I was depressed, sad, lonely and alone...

But that has all changed!

Eventually, I found something that worked

I discovered how to rid my day of all the sorrows and catapult my energy and enthusiasm sky high.

One of the surprising facts about my discovery was that if you apply these techniques to any problem, the problem isn't so harsh and suddenly you're presented with answers to resolve it.

Allow me to explain with an illustration...

Has a friend every helped you resolve a problem? In doing so, did they suggest an answer you already knew? When you are sad your ability to 'recognise the truth' is almost lost; your mind will present you with answers, but they will be ignored. Did you follow your friend's advice or ignore that advice too?

Yet when you're 'happy' you know both the answer and the direction to follow.

Getting an answer from an 'AUTHORITY' is also needed when you are frustrated an angry, sad or depressed. You don't accept your first consideration, neither do you accept family members or friend's advice. The only way you'll accept an answer is if it comes from an authority. That authority maybe a doctor, a tradesman, a qualified individual such as a chiropodist, a psychologist; or strangely even the television. Nonetheless they need to be deemed by you as the authority on the subject.

Yet ... may I repeat ... that when you're 'happy' you know both the answer and the direction to follow.

So ... as I understood it ... I needed to map out a system and procedure to follow to rid myself of the torment of my sadness. Here is a list I wrote that I need to inject into my life

  Smile a lot more

  Laugh a lot more

Prevent those moments of sadness lingering

  Develop your inner self

  Improve your sense of 'well-being'

  Remove the anguish and frustration

  Find more energy and strength

Discover the secrets of prolonging your happiness

  Dispel those annoying negative thoughts

Collect and store new ideas and concepts

Become the person you've always wanted to be

Shrug off the reasons you're unhappy

Grow more positive by being happy

See the people around grow happy with you

Never allow sadness to dominate anymore

See more opportunities arise before you

Understand the beauty that happiness brings

Interrupt sadness with your new happy persona

Expect improvements of mind, body and spirit

  Self help becomes instinctive

Life becomes easier, problems become fewer

Extending your skills are problem free

Other people can become astounded by your freedom

Heighten your senses to expand your life

Enjoy life with a bigger smile

Avoid wasting time on idle thoughts

  Expand your potential

  Feel good about feeling good

Learn how to switch from sadness to happiness

So it took me 48 months to realise you need a system of understanding; and then I needed to write it into a format and guide. By the time I'd finished I'd wrote my own book!

I began to share the findings with a few people and had some very good responses. I already had a 'Wisdom and Philosophy' website so the topic was both relevant and appropriate to add to that website should I think it suitable.

I sat on the possibility for a while ... then a few people who I'd copied the basic techniques to, read the content and came back with really exciting comments...

HERE IS WHAT EVERYONE FOUND IT DID...

"It wasn't just the techniques that inspired me but the illustrations...Mark"

"... The short stories of illustration we're spot on! ... Rebecca"

"Sometimes these topics go over my head. But each technique has an example. Phil ... do yourself a favour and convert this material into a book. ... Helen."

I read with interest your comments on " What Love Brings ". Having read this section I found my heart touched and my eyes filled with tears. The information made me look back on my life on how I have been touched & loved in so many different ways. It made me also realize what responsibility we have towards each other, and what influence we have in others lives.
May you be blessed with more wisdom to carry on the good work. You are changing and touching peoples lives out there. God bless, Carl

I just want to say that your section 'Inner Conflict' hit home for me. I am going through a very difficult time in my own life. I have always been a strong person. With situations I am dealing with in my life at the present I feel I don't have much strength left. I don't know why or for what reason you created this material, but I just want to let you know your messages have help me. And, I thank you for that. I am a firm believer that things do happen for a reason. I also believe people enter each other's lives for a reason. I don't know why you're there, but I do know who you are.......Thank You...........(smile). Jan

Phil, I just sat down to begin my day and found a section of your material just waiting for me. I enjoyed your stories and was very appreciative of how it affected my day. Your labor is a work of the heart and I encourage you to continue with your message of evolution of the spirit.
(Regards, drrobert@a*****.com)

As a quick illustration of the type of stories you can expect within the ebook, please enjoy this short example.

TWO WOLVES

An old Grandfather, whose grandson came to him with anger at a schoolmate who had done him an injustice, said, "Let me tell you a story. I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do. But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times."

He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside me; one is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him and does not take offence when no offence was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way."

"But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit."

The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather?"

The Grandfather solemnly said, "The one I feed."

Dear Reader,

How can I be Happy? A regular question to my websites, but there are answers...

Everyone has a sleeping giant within! We need to tap into our inner potential rather than always looking on the outside to add.

We all have the potential to be happy, but for some unknown reason there is a mental block preventing this flow of happiness.

I can help you discover new and old secrets and unravel those mysteries.

We don't need to look for happiness - it is already within us, we just need to connect to it. Let me help you find that connecting link.

One of the most IMPORTANT aspects that I use to explain these concepts and principals is by using the technique 'Education through Illustration'. Wherever possible I have included an illustration or story to expand and illuminate the understanding. Practically each main heading and sub heading has a story of illustration.

With 87, 000+ words, this ebook will become a reference point for your future self development.

Egyptian arabic translation - for all dear friends who feel sad...?
Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you. No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions?the little soon-forgotten charities of a kiss, a smile, a kind look, a heartfelt compliment in the disguise of a playful raillery, and the countless other infinitessimals of pleasurable thought and genial feeling. When it is dark enough, you can see the stars. And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake. Courage, it would seem, is nothing less than the power to overcome danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing to affirm inwardly that life with all its sorrows is good; that everything is meaningful even if in a sense beyond our understanding; and that there is always tomorrow. You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge -- myth is more potent than history -- dreams are more powerful than facts -- hope always triumphs over experience -- laughter is the cure for grief -- love is stronger than death. To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world. When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.
