‘He who is contented is rich.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There has been little in my life that has made as much an impact as learning to be content — with my life, where I am, what I’m doing, what I have, who I’m with, who I am. This little trick changes [...]

How to Fail at Habits
by Leo
24 Apr 2012 at 11:28am
Post written by Leo Babauta. Before I learned how to change habits, I was stuck. I kept trying to change various habits — running, eating healthier, waking earlier, getting out of debt, ending procrastination — and I kept failing. I got very good at failing, in fact. Looking back on those days, given the power [...]

Why We Overplan
by Leo
17 Apr 2012 at 8:40am
‘A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There is something about my mind, and many people’s minds, that is overly optimistic. We think we can do so much each day, and so we overplan. We fill our plans with so much, confident [...]

Confidence Building Courses

Here is your Sunday STORY on: LOVE OF WISDOM When the going gets tough there is a point where many would give in and say the task in hand is too difficult. Most of every day there are tasks and duties that are tedious and considerations are made to leave the job until tomorrow. Ask yourself whether it's the job that's tedious or is it your frame of mind that feels more tired than your limbs? This form of lethargy has so much to answer for; it can prevent mountains being moved and dishes on the sink from being washed. It can prevent us accomplishing a task that normally would be within our range. This lethargy in the mind destroys ambition, intimidates our enthusiasm and drains our energy tank; when in actual fact it is just a state of mind as our body is fit enough to continue. We must have a belief that we can overcome this lethargy; we must have a faith that we can conquer our weariness. This faith, this belief can fire our engines beyond the norm and provide us with so many victories. Rather than be a prisoner of our mood we must SEE the mind in action and witness its control. In doing this we can fight its effect. Faith in what is right is a major driving force and can almost create an aura around our whole being; as if we have a greater presence. Our godliness will almost protect our life like an eggshell. In today's story we see a missionary emanate with goodness and with a loving nature, and perhaps it was this that created a weird and wonderful event in protection. BE SAFE WITH FAITH A missionary on furlough told this true story while visiting his home church in Michigan... "While serving at a small field hospital in Africa, every two weeks I travelled by bicycle through the jungle to a nearby city for supplies. This was a journey of two days and required camping overnight at the halfway point. On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city where I planned to collect money from a bank, purchase medicine and supplies, and then begin my two-day journey back to the field hospital. Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting, one of whom had been seriously injured. I treated him for his injuries and at the same time talked to him about the Lord. I then travelled two days, camping overnight, and arrived home without incident. Two weeks later I repeated my journey. Upon arriving in the city, I was approached by the young man I had treated. He told me that he had known I carried money and medicines. He said, 'Some friends and I followed you into the jungle, knowing you would camp overnight. We planned to kill you and take your money and drugs. But just as we were about to move into your camp, we saw that you were surrounded by 26 armed guards. At this, I laughed and said that I was certainly all alone in that jungle campsite. The young man pressed the point, however, and said, 'No sir, I was not the only person to see the guards. My five friends also saw them, and we all counted them. It was because of those guards that we were afraid and left you alone. What are your views on a self help confidence building course in highschools?
What are your views on this? I have been reading and answering teenagers postings and a lot have to do with being bullied, clicks, other judging you. With all the BS they fluff you up with in high school they should teach a self improvement class. Where they takes course from people like Tony Robbins. Help them POSITIVELY shape their self image. Teach them how to value their self worth. Show them how what they think about themselves influences how others view them, andat the same time how what others think of them doesn?t make them that. I would much rather have my kid be able to feel positive about himself, than know how to bake a freakin cookie. I am 22 by the way. Those are both good points. But even if the problem comes from home or school the child is still an individual and these lesson need to be learn to help them face family problems school and eventually the real world issues. A person witha better awareness of themselves , as well as a person who values themselves are a much healthier rounded person. My husband for example, his father raised him and his brother to have high self worth. He has never since he was a little boy let what others think of him bother him. Hes very out going because of this. And very un judgemental because he knows what true values of a person are. I think if they have some sort of self improvement class starting in grade school up to highschool ( made age appropriate for each age) It would make a HUGE difference in todays youth. Oh and i dont think it would be embarssing, because its not like you are standing up telling your insecurities. What i had in mind fell more towards giving kids tools to feel better about themselves. And what makes a person. So often in society we teach kids that how you look what you buy makes you who you are.

Would you be annoyed if someone just assumed you was a single mum?
I was at a event in a local park today, There was 2 ladies handing out leaflets for confidence building courses for single mums. Without even asking if i was a single parent (Which im not) they started asking me if i wanted to join the course, Pretty much going into detail about what they do there, and how they can help me. When i told them that im not a single parent, they seemed really shocked. I was quite offended, they seemed to presume that i was single as i am a young mum (Im 20 but people say i look younger) Would you be offended? I dont mean to offened any single mums, I dont think there is anything wrong with single mums, I was brought up just by my mum. I dont mean to offened any single mums, I dont think there is anything wrong with single mums, I was brought up just by my mum. It was a music event, My mum is a youth worker and does a youth night where young bands come to practice and record, the people who i talked to where just there handing out leaflets.
