‘He who is contented is rich.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There has been little in my life that has made as much an impact as learning to be content — with my life, where I am, what I’m doing, what I have, who I’m with, who I am. This little trick changes [...]

Post written by Leo Babauta. Before I learned how to change habits, I was stuck. I kept trying to change various habits — running, eating healthier, waking earlier, getting out of debt, ending procrastination — and I kept failing. I got very good at failing, in fact. ‘A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There is something about my mind, and many people’s minds, that is overly optimistic. Change My Life

Here is your Saturday STORY on: SOLVING PROBLEMS: We solve problems by dipping into our knowledge and experience and producing an answer. Most adults will have the chance of experience as it happens directly in front of them each day. As for knowledge few choose to gather any more; as a consequence they will always be disadvantaged. To search for knowledge need not be tiresome, in a day of MEASURE there is always room for study. A measured day equals a measure life. Measure allows abundance to flow and happiness to flourish. I recently watched a television documentary on a British entertainer, he was 75 years-old and still taking on television assignments. Moreover he was married to a former Miss World for the last twenty five years, who was 35 years his junior. What surprised me about this documentary was MEASURE. This energetic and lively entertainer scheduled very specific events each day to care for his health and well being. Not only was his body agile but his mind very active. Today's story illustrates the value of experience and how to turn it into knowledge. A GOODBYE KISS The Board Meeting had come to an end. Bob started to stand up and jostled the table, spilling his coffee over his notes. "How embarrassing, I am getting so clumsy in my old age." Everyone had a good laugh, and soon we were all telling stories of our most embarrassing moments. It came around to Frank who sat quietly listening to the others. Someone said, "Come on, Frank. Tell us your most embarrassing moment." Frank laughed and began to tell us of his childhood. "I grew up in San Pedro. My Dad was a fisherman, and he loved the sea. He had his own boat, but it was hard making a living on the sea. He worked hard and would stay out until he caught enough to feed the family. Not just enough for our family, but also for his Mom and Dad and the other kids that were still at home." He looked at us and said, "I wish you could have met my Dad. He was a big man, and he was strong from pulling the nets and fighting the seas for his catch. When you got close to him, he smelled like the ocean. He would wear his old canvas, foul-weather coat and his bibbed overalls. His rain hat would be pulled down over his brow. No matter how much my Mother washed them, they would still smell of the sea and of fish." Frank's voice dropped a bit. "When the weather was bad he would drive me to school. He had this old truck that he used in his fishing business. That truck was older than he was. It would wheeze and rattle down the road. You could hear it coming for blocks. As he would drive toward the school, I would shrink down into the seat hoping to disappear. Half the time, he would slam to a stop and the old truck would belch a cloud of smoke. He would pull right up in front, and it seemed like everybody would be standing around and watching. Then he would lean over and give me a big kiss on the cheek and tell me to be a good boy. It was so embarrassing for me. Here I was, twelve years old, and my Dad would lean over and kiss me goodbye!" He paused and then went on, "I remember the day I decided I was too old for a goodbye kiss. When we got to the school and came to a stop, he had his usual big smile. He started to lean toward me, but I put my hand up and said, 'No, Dad.' It was the first time I had ever talked to him that way, and he had this surprised look on his face. I said, 'Dad, I'm too old for a goodbye kiss. I'm too old for any kind of kiss.' My Dad looked at me for the longest time, and his eyes started to tear up. I had never seen him cry. He turned and looked out the windshield. 'You're right, ' he said. 'You are a big boy.a man. I won't kiss you anymore.'" Frank got a funny look on his face, and the tears began to well up in his eyes, as he spoke. "It wasn't long after that when my Dad went to sea and never came back. It was a day when most of the fleet stayed in, but not Dad. He had a big family to feed. They found his boat adrift with its nets half in and half out. He must have gotten into a gale and was trying to save the nets and the floats." I looked at Frank and saw that tears were running down his cheeks. Frank spoke again. "Guys, you don't know what I would give to have my Dad give me just one more kiss on the cheek, to feel his rough old face, to smell the ocean on him, to feel his arm around my neck. I wish I had been a man then. If I had been a man, I would never have told my Dad I was too old for a goodbye kiss." (Bishop Thomas Charles Clary) QUOTE: "A difficult time can be more readily endured if we retain conviction that our existence holds a purpose - a cause to pursue, a person to love, a goal to achieve.' what are good books to motivate me?
okay so this summer i want to set goals and change the world even if its just by changing myself. I really want to read a book that will motivate me maybe about someone who reached there goal. maybe someone surviving cancer or other life threatening things through making goals. maybe people who made goals to travel the world or just something like that. maybe a book about a bucket list? just something that would change my life and inspire me from reading it. but it has to be an exciting or an interesting book. thank you!

Why am I such a failure at life?
Hello, I'm turning 14 this year, and so far my life has been a failure. Well let's see. Im a victim of bullying. It's happened all through my school life, K-6. I've never had a friend before. Until one day, which happened to be the 1st day of junior high, I met this girl. Her name was Charlotte. She turned out to be my "sister" till this day, meaning she's a really extraordinary friend. She changed my life. She introduced me to all these new people who I have now made friends with. My mom doesnt understand. I've talked to her about the bullying before. She said that it was because of our race. ive always believed that. shes never shown any emotion when i tell her about it and when i tell her that, she says tht its part of our culture tht adults dont show any emotion when talking. i feel as if she doesnt care. nd now shes wondering why i care for charlotte nd her personal struggles so much, i mean, shes changed my life. shes getting mad at me for liking one direction so much. they've saved our(charlottes nd i) life b/f. long story short, over 10 times have we felt alone nd wanted 2 disappear from the world. over 10 times have they saved us. she doesnt understand tht. she asked why once nd said tht shed understand. i told her. she didnt understand. i do really good in school to. i got a 4.0 GPA last quarter in advanced honors classes(im in a program called STEM which is more advanced than regular honors) nd in school we're planning this huge project for the 6th graders. we're gonna have stations tht they'r gonna go around nd complete. in my group, me nd my friend are pulling off the whole thing thts supposed to be a 6 person job, so yeah theres a lot of stress. so when we got a score of 8/12 for something tht was supposed to be completed as a group,(only 2 ppl did it nd tht pulled my entire grade from an A to a B-) she screamed at me. i told her, im just telling u wat happend. i tried my best, ok? im pulling this whole thing off mainly by myself nd theres a lot on my back. nd my teacher said tht there were only minor revisions needed--so idk why i even got tht score. so i told her tht i was gonna ask my teacher 2mrrw. she still didnt understand. when i told her tht it was my best nd tht im not good at everything,on top of tht, then she called me a dumb a**.turns out, my teacher gave everyone tht score since everyone needed revisions nd he told us to revise it nd turn it in again for full credit. tht raised my grade up to an A again. nd this is a 10th grade level class. im only in 8th.im currently helping other groups tht needed help--since i pulled off the whole portion tht my group was supposed 2,do we're finished early. im currently under the most stress ive ever felt nd ive had a breakout(face). my mom said tht when she was young, she didnt have this type of prob nd tht major acne didnt run on her side of the fam, nd tht it was my dads side tht caused this. woopee..tht made me feel so much better. on top of tht, shes teasing me bout it to. this is my 1st breakout. one day i came back from school w/ paint all over my shirt cos we were painting. we were gonna go into target nd my mom asked if i wanted to come or say in the car. i said "how can i go in if im looking like this?" nd i pointed to my shirt. my mom teased me later about it 2 my sisters. loosely translated, it means"oh shes not coming because she has all those red/dark spots over her face. shes embarasses" i told her "no mom its because i have paint all over me!" she ended up yelling back at me, claiming tht i was disrepectful to her nd tht in our culture no matter how mad u get, kids arent allowed to raise their voices to adults. the teasing has happnd b/f this, so i was pretty fed up. being a victim of bullying for most of my life, it rlly hurt. i asked her to stop yesterday nd she said loosly translated "ok. then u dont want ppl to have fun with you." i said nothing. but inside i just wanted to scream "is tht ur idea of fun? teasing ppl because of how they look? nd its not even my fault. theres so much stress going on. if i didnt pull off the entire proj. my grade wouldve been an F! then u would scream nd call me names again! u know how many ppl have wanted to kill themselves because of ppl like u who tease& have nvr had to deal w/ acne nd both the emotional nd physical effects of it?" tht is how i wanted to respond. but of course, w/ "being the perfect child" thing holding me back, i couldnt do it. now im trying contact a group member bout bringing a poster 4 school tmrrw nd im doing hw. shes not responding back. shes already 4gotten once 2 bring it, so im reminding her. nd guess where mom comes into all of this. "ur on the computer too long. when ur done im gonna put a lock on ur laptop nd ur ipod. i let u control ur screen time on ur own nd u wont do it. say bye bye to freedom after u turn tht thing off! this is ur last cha hey, wtf Mike Boatright. think about ur answr. IF I WAS A HOMELESS 45 YR OLD HOW WOULD I HAVE ACCESS TO THIS MACBOOK PRO? WAT WAS UR PURPOSE IN ANSWERING THIS Q ANYWAY IF UR JUST GONNA CALL A PERSON U DONT KNOW THIS? GET A FREAKIN' LIFE MAN! srry everyone bout the big paragraph. big shoutout to Skye. seeing tht they included my friends name shows tht they went past the "im 14" part--UNLIKE SOME OTHER PERSON. thnx for taking ur time in reading this. reading a paragraph nd putting valuable input might seem little, but to me, being a person tht has been thru a lot, it means a ton. thank you!!!

Rocky Balboa maths study collage sequence- can you help?
Hey guys, I'm at a bit of a maths cross roads. I'm applying for a scholarship that requires me to take this random Japanese maths test. If I get the scholarship, it'd be freakin' sweet and would probably change my life.. forever.. lol, but if I don't, it's not the end of the world. That being said, I'd love to get it. For the position I'm applying for, the expected mark is 40%. Now I know this may not seem hard at all to some of you, but to me, due to my very rusty maths skills, will be quite a challenge. The clincher is that the exam is in 3 weeks, and I need to know all the most efficient ways to study for this test. I figure if I can be shown what marks are easy to get, and then build from there, I should be at a good starting point. When you give me some advice or tips, remember: pretend that I don't know anything about maths. I do actually know some from awhile back in uni, but it's been so long, even simple things will help me, seriously. Also, I realise that this won't be easy. I'm willing to work hard for this, and have been trying to study for it, but due to the scope of the test, I'm feeling at a major loss. As the question suggests, I'm in for a bit of an epic maths workout, but I'm in need of an instructor. People in general seem to be really onto it on this site, so if you think you can give me some on point guidance as to how to achieve my goal, I'd be most grateful (and pretty dang impressed because if anyone can sort me out for this particular test, you are the king!) Thank you so much for any help or advice you can offer, Edy http://www.studyjapan.go.jp/pdf/questions/10/ga-math_a.pdf http://www.studyjapan.go.jp/pdf/questions/09/ga-math_a.pdf http://www.studyjapan.go.jp/en/toj/pdf/08-005.pdf http://www.studyjapan.go.jp/en/toj/pdf/005.pdf
