Editor’s Note: This is a guest post from Tyler Tervooren of Advanced Riskology. I used to have a lot of bad habits. I still do, but I used to have a lot more. Here?s just a small sampling: I woke up late and went to bed early. I procrastinated on my most important work. I [...]

The membership is a monthly subscription of $19.99, but really it’s a commitment to changing your life, and the tools needed to [...]
Creating Silence from Chaos
by Leo
27 Jan 2012 at 3:20pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. We are often afraid of silence, because its emptiness feels idle, boring, unproductive, and scary. And so we fill our lives with chaos, noise, clutter. But silence can be lovely, and therapeutic, and powerful. It can be the remedy for our stress and the habits that crush us. If we [...]
The Habits That Crush Us
by Leo
23 Jan 2012 at 11:26am
‘Don’t panic.’ ~Douglas Adams Post written by Leo Babauta. Why is it that we cannot break the bad habits that stand in our way, crushing our desires to live a healthy life, be fit, simplify, be happier? How is it that our best intentions are nearly always beaten? We want to be focused and productive, [...]
Learning to Sit Alone, in a Quiet Empty Room
by Leo
17 Jan 2012 at 1:49pm
‘All men’s miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.’ ~Blaise Pascal Post written by Leo Babauta. Think about some of the problems of our daily lives, and how many of them would be eased if we could learn to sit alone, in a quiet empty room, with contentment. If [...]
Life as a Conscious Practice
by Leo

‘Everything is practice.’ ~Pele Post written by Leo Babauta. When we learn a martial art, or ballet, or gymnastics, or soccer ? we consciously practice movements in a deliberate way, repeatedly. By conscious, repeated practice, we become good at those movements. Our entire lives are like this, but we’re often less conscious of the practice. [...]

Clearing Your Life for a New Year
by Leo
9 Jan 2012 at 12:55pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. Every January, people rush out and get a gym membership, set a list of goals or resolutions, and get ready to take on a new year of frenetic activity. Unfortunately, we don’t often clear space to make room for all this new stuff. The beginning of the year is a [...]
How to Tackle Your Clutter
by Leo
6 Jan 2012 at 12:19pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. So you’ve been putting off tackling your clutter for months, maybe even years. How to Have the Best Year of Your Life (without Setting a Single Goal)
by guest
5 Jan 2012 at 9:15am
Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Jeff Goins of Goins, Writer. This new year, do something different: stop setting goals. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, then making resolutions for another year is a sure-fire way to drive yourself crazy. I did [...]

Here is your Monday STORY on: LOVE: In love you always give and don't demand in return. By giving, you allow things to happen. When people love someone, they forget that real love means no demands from the beloved. When dedicating yourself to a God, the Self, the Absolute, the Saviour - call it what you will, the most important part is the heart, and that is very simple. If that is properly achieved in its simplicity, all the rest should not bother one, because nothing else is very important. One can see this from many examples that this is so, but here is one: IT WAS ASKED FROM THE HEART 'There was a great elephant who was proud of his size and strength, but when he went for a bathe he was caught by a crocodile in mid-stream and dragged out of his depth into the deep water. He was helpless and couldn't do anything. But; just when he was about to be drowned he happened to catch with his trunk a lotus flower floating on the river, and offering that flower to the Absolute, to his God, he begged Him to save his life. So pure was his offering that God came running from his throne. One might wonder how one could dislodge the Absolute, the God and cause him to come barefoot from his throne by just a little flower! But it was not the flower, it was the spirit behind the flower - it was the heart which prayed.' (Excerpt from the book 'Good Company.') QUOTE: "Don't spend your precious time asking, 'Why isn't this world a better place?' It will only be time wasted. The question to ask is, 'How can I make it better?' To that there is an answer.' (Leo F Buscaglia, Author in 'The Way of the Bull').

Please comment on this short essay.?
This essay is for a scholarship. Please see below for the prompt and the essay. I will vote for whoever gives me the best comment. However, all good comments would be appreciated! Describe an academic challenge you have faced, and explain how you overcame it. Nobody had told me that I had bad writing skills. Until the second semester of college, my Psychology advisor informed me that I needed to improve on my writing?especially to do well in graduate school. I then feared that if my bad writing skills would hinder me to succeed in graduate school, I would not be able to achieve my ultimate career goal: becoming an experimental social psychologist that requires a graduate school degree. Finding the motivation to overcome my challenge, I went to discuss with my Psychology advisor about how to improve on my writing. Afterwards, we collaborated with the director of the writing center at my college. Because the director suggested me to take an independent study class, I took the class where I worked with the director and a writing center tutor. In the class, I learned about what good writing is, the writing process, and the revising and editing skills I should take. At the end of the semester, the writing director told me that I learned all the tools required for good writing. She added, however, that I needed to continue on practicing using these tools so writing well would become more natural. Although I still need a lot of work to do, I am still determined to improve my writing. I plan to take more writing courses and to join a blog site. That way, I can continue on practicing the tools, as my director suggested, when writing for my class and for my readers at the website. Thanks guys for being honest with me that my essay was boring. Now, I would really appreciate it if you all can comment on this draft now. I plan to go to graduate school that would prepare me for my future career: being an experimental social Psychologist. Because graduate school and my career require me to write literature reviews, research proposals, and lab reports, I need to have good writing skills. One day, however, my Psychology advisor informed that I lacked in having these necessary writing skills. At that moment, I felt afraid that my bad writing skills would hinder me from achieving my goals: going to graduate school and becoming an experimental social Psychologist. However, I was determined to achieve my goals; therefore, I took an independent study class to improve my writing skills. In this class, I learned what good writing is and what writing process I should use to establish a good writing piece. For example, I learned the importance of backward outlining to have log

Why are people so hateful to young moms?
I had my first child when I was 21, we married when I was 22, and we had our 2nd when I was 23. We live a simple, quiet life and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything that single or married with no kid/s are doing. We have accomplished a lot of things in such a short time, like buying a house and completely remodeling it, paying off some of my husband's old debts, he finished his certificate program in a year and got a job before he even graduated and makes pretty decent money. I have been lucky enough to stay home, go to school, and occassionally work part-time. I am very happy with the decisions I've made with my life. My husband and I have been discussing about having another child within the next two years since I'd like to have my children closer in age and also have my 3rd and final child by the time I'm 26. Since deciding this, we have gotten a lot of negative comments from outside sources about how I'm too young, I'm missing out, I'll probably go nuts in my 30s and start partying, etc. Considering that my career goal is to be a police officer...bar hopping and slamming shots doesn't fit into my idea of how someone in that profession should carry themselves. I've had plenty of time to experience those things and I don't enjoy them at all. Why do responsible woman my age who chose to have a family get so much negativity? Why do we have to be thrown in the same catagory as those who have children without thinking and expect the government to take care of them? I could understand if I acted like some of the crazies on Teen Mom, but that's not the case. Why is it that my age is always such an issue when we have obviously made great strides to better our lives for our family?

Homeschooling diploma?
I want to get home schooled but my mom is telling me no because you can't get a high school diploma from being homeschooled. Is that true? And If I get a homeschool tutor doesn't he/she provide a diploma for homeschooling stating that I graduated? Or what online homeschool programs give diplomas when you have completed the course? I know they're are some but I just can't find any. I checked the community college that I would plan on going too and this is what they said about homeschooling: "Home-Schooled Students who wish to obtain admission to, or enroll at Orange County Community College must hold a high school degree or diploma.  Home-schoolers who have earned a high school diploma from correspondence school or a certificate of completion at a home-study program must present, along with their application information and transcripts, proof that the correspondence school or home-school program is registered or recognized by it's own state department of education. If you have been home-schooled and wish to discuss your academic and career goals as they relate to Orange County Community College, please call us at 845-341-4030. Application Instructions for all students appear on the page preceding the application. There are additional and special instructions for Nursing and Allied Health and instructions for International Students. There are also special instructions for our Honors Program. Orange County Community College is committed to the acceptance of students without regard to sex, race, creed, color, national origin, age or handicap as defined by law." Please answer. I really want to get homeschooled! Thanks xoxo <3
