‘He who is contented is rich.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There has been little in my life that has made as much an impact as learning to be content — with my life, where I am, what I’m doing, what I have, who I’m with, who I am. This little trick changes [...]

How to Fail at Habits
by Leo
24 Apr 2012 at 11:28am
Post written by Leo Babauta. Before I learned how to change habits, I was stuck. I kept trying to change various habits — running, eating healthier, waking earlier, getting out of debt, ending procrastination — and I kept failing. I got very good at failing, in fact. Looking back on those days, given the power [...]

Why We Overplan
by Leo
17 Apr 2012 at 8:40am
‘A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There is something about my mind, and many people’s minds, that is overly optimistic. We think we can do so much each day, and so we overplan. We fill our plans with so much, confident [...]

Business Psychology

Here is your Saturday STORY on: SOLVING PROBLEMS: I personally have a problem with jealousy and consistently fight its effect, as I guess does everyone. If I could help diminish its effect, would you be impressed? Opportunities arise regularly to dissolve big issues in life, but we forget to take them. Let me explain... What I have always endeavoured to do with a subject is to turn it on its head. Instead of jealousy being a problem, I've tried to view it from beauty. What is jealousy telling you? It is saying in a relationship for example that you are selfishly in love with your partner. But love is a beautiful thing! Being too selfish is where the trap is! In every aspect of your life, being too selfish can destroy what is good. As jealousy can often damage a relationship, isn't it then beautiful when you notice the moment a jealous thought enters your head, this is an opportunity to put things right? Today's story is about selfishness and to what extent you can take it. When you think you are right, you become so self-indulged that no other person can offer a better solution. The story although amusing and often used as a joke, has a stark reminder how selfish we can all be at times. THE FLOOD It was a day of heavy rain and the flood-waters came, a man, a religious man, was trapped on his own roof. As he saw the waters rise he prayed for God's assistance. "I know he will come and save me, " the man said. Two men came by in a small boat, "Hop in old chap, we can take you to dry land, " they said. "It's okay, " he replied, "God is coming to save me." A speed-boat then passed. "Jump in quick, the water is rising, " said the driver. "It's okay, " he replied, "God is coming to save me." As the waters began to rise a helicopter flew by. "Climb onto the rope ladder, we can still save your life, " said the rescuer. "It's okay, " he replied, "God is coming to save me." Eventually the man drowned. As he got to the gates of heaven, he was annoyed. "Where is God, I want a word with him, " he said in a raised voice. "I am God, what can I do for you?" The man continued, "You of all people should answer prayers, I drowned as a consequence of you!" God replied, "I sent a rowing boat, a speed boat and a helicopter, what else could I have done!" Opportunities are presented to you if you choose to take them. As soon as you see a jealous moment arrive, you have an opportunity to improve and thus lessen the grip it is likely to take. QUOTE: "Bad times have a value. These are occasions a good learner would not miss." (Ralph Waldo Emerson, Author & Philosopher). [[ct]]: Business Psychology

Is this dream a forecast or does it display my subconscious thoughts?
These past few nights, I kept on dreaming about two men. Sometimes these two men have faces and their identities, but sometimes I entirely don't recognize them, like they're complete strangers. Still, 2 young men keep on appearing in my dreams. (@_@) Then, just recently, I have dreamed about not only two but 3 men (the three of them are young, maybe my own age). The 3rd man is angry at the other two men and the reason is me. I don't know, sometimes my dreams get really weird, but their re-occurrences make me bewildered. (~__~) Before, I've studied a bit about dreams in my business psychology class, and it's said that dreams are actually surfacing thoughts from your subconscious mind. But then, I've also read in an article about dreams that sometimes, dreams have the power in giving you hints about the future, and that you can also learn things from your dreams... I know, they are different viewpoints of dreams, one is rational and scientific while the other one is kind of pseudoscience.

IB subject selection - graduated students please help?
Hi guys~ I'm in year 10, taking the Pre-IB course, and we have to select subjects in a few weeks. I'd really appreciate advice on this topic. Here are the subjects I'm thinking about: HL: Mandarin, Biology, Maths SL: English, Chemistry, Psychology(anticipated) I'd like to study medicine/vet science/dentistry at UQ when I finish school, and English, Maths, Biology and Chemistry are prerequisites. -Can you please tell me what the most preferred group 3 subject(business, psychology, history) is? -Is Biology HL & Chemistry SL or Biology SL & Chemistry HL a wiser choice? In other words, is biology or chemistry harder :L ? -Is Maths HL really suicidal? I've heard it's quite a killer, but if I say so myself, I think I'm the best at Maths in my grade so far, but I'm really not sure if I can make it. I want to do it because passing it means extra ranks for my uni entry, and because I really do love maths. So sorry for all these silly questions, but if you could help out a little, I'd really appreciate it :DD
