The Little Guide to Contentedness
by Leo

‘He who is contented is rich.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There has been little in my life that has made as much an impact as learning to be content — with my life, where I am, what I’m doing, what I have, who I’m with, who I am. This little trick changes [...]

How to Fail at Habits
by Leo
24 Apr 2012 at 11:28am
Post written by Leo Babauta. Before I learned how to change habits, I was stuck. I kept trying to change various habits — running, eating healthier, waking earlier, getting out of debt, ending procrastination — and I kept failing. I got very good at failing, in fact. Looking back on those days, given the power [...]

‘Everything you can imagine is real.’ ~Pablo Picasso Post written by Leo Babauta. When I wrote the first words of this blog, more than five years ago, I had no idea those few keystrokes would change my life. Why We Overplan
by Leo
17 Apr 2012 at 8:40am
‘A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There is something about my mind, and many people’s minds, that is overly optimistic. We think we can do so much each day, and so we overplan. We fill our plans with so much, confident [...]

Bipolar Symptom

Here is your Tuesday STORY on: The power of the voice can instil a point of view and make it sound true, when in fact it is false. In these writings I don't dwell too much on any specific religion, as all have qualities of wisdom within them. However, today's story could have been written about any religion as the plot would ring true in all. But it is the doubting, and the convincing way it which it appears to have been told that convinces those who encountered the professor. We can be convinced with the sound of a voice and not it's content. Whilst the story illustrates this with some clarity, it is the opposite effect we need to be aware of. Our OWN speech will determine so much in our life, we need to observe how it is presented. Well chosen words come from a calm centre. As you may recall wisdom is best contemplated from a calm centre, so equally so should we consider SPEECH as the main way we express ourselves. The elements of speech are beyond what this short introduction can teach us, but the main element must be truth. If your speech contains the truth, the tone and quality of your voice will alone testify to its content. SELF DEVELOPMENT: There was a professor of philosophy there who was a deeply committed atheist. His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester attempting to prove that God couldn't exist. His students were always afraid to argue with him because of his impeccable logic. For twenty years, he had taught this class and no one had ever had the courage to go against him. Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever really gone against him because of his reputation. At the end of every semester on the last day, he would say to his class of 300 students, "If there is anyone here who still believes in Jesus, stand up!" In twenty years, no one had ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do next. He would say, "Because anyone who believes in God is a fool. If God existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and breaking. Such a simple task to prove that He is God, and yet He can't do "it." And every year, he would drop the chalk onto the tile floor of the classroom and it would shatter into a hundred pieces. All of the students would do nothing but stop and stare. Certainly, a number of Christians had slipped through, but for 20 years, they had been too afraid to stand up. Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to enrol. He was a Christian, and had heard the stories about his professor. He was required to take the class for his major, and he was afraid. But for three months that semester, he prayed every morning that he would have the courage to stand up no matter what the professor said, or what the class thought. Nothing they said could ever shatter his faith...he hoped. Finally, the day came. The professor said, "If there is anyone here who still believes in God, stand up!" The professor and the class of 300 people looked at him, shocked, as he stood up at the back of the classroom. The professor shouted, "You FOOL!!! If God existed, he would keep this piece of chalk from breaking when it hit the ground!" He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did, it slipped out of his fingers, off his shirt cuff, onto the pleat of his pants, down his leg, and off his shoe. As it hit the ground, it simply rolled away unbroken. The professor's jaw dropped as he stared at the chalk. He looked up at the young man, and then ran out of the lecture hall. The young man, who had stood, proceeded to walk to the front of the room and shared his faith in Jesus for the next half hour. 300 students stayed and listened as he told of God's love for them and of His power through Jesus. Earthly Angels And Sando Boys

19 May 2012 at 1:28am  MANILA, Philippines ? Every morning, I used to enjoy having a cup of hot coffee on my balcony with a tasty pan de sal filled with scrambled egg or sometimes coco butter. During my morning routine I enjoyed the view of plenty of trees from the Valle Verde subdivisions (I live in a condo on a high floor so I get a good view of Antipolo and Ortigas Center).

I'm going to a psychologist for the first time ever and I am very shy. Any tips?
I am 17 and I'm experiencing depression and bipolar symptoms. I'm INSANELY shy and can barely even talk to a lot of my friends, so I have no idea how I'm going to talk to a psychologist. Should I write everything down and just get him to read it and ask me questions about what I've written? It will end up being like 2 pages of writing though because I have so much going on. But I do have a 90 minute session with him. Any other tips? Thank You (:

How do I over come all these things in my life?
I have a lot of secrets that I can not tell anyone. I lost two brothers to suicide. I suffer from depression and I have some bipolar symptoms. So many girls broke my heart and it haunts me. I have so many dreams and one is to play football for my college. I'm going to start working out and I'm going to try to walk on. My Mom has schizophrenia. She just got out of the hospital again. She is doing fine now but she gets sick almost every year. I take the metro to school. I do not have a car or job. Life has been so hard on me but I'm never going to give up. I try to do so many things but my past haunts me and it makes me think a lot and I kind of go crazy. I can't have a facebook because I deactivate it all the time and make a new one then deactivate it again. So many people think I am weird. I'm over weight and I can't stop over eating. I'm back on my meds and I hope it helps. I stoped talking to this girl that lives in brazil because I know it can never work out. I promised her that we would get married in the future but I stopped talking to her. I do not know how to forgive myself. So many girls hurt me and left me and she did nothing wrong so I feel bad. I go to church and I believe in Jesus but I have my doubts. Once I pray to him and trust in him my life gets a lot better. I want to become successful and have people look at me and say that it is crazy how he over came all these things but it is so hard and I feel like I'm loosing my mind. I'm sorry for all this stupid writing but I'm going through a lot right now and I do not know what to do.
