Creating Silence from Chaos
by Leo
27 Jan 2012 at 3:20pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. We are often afraid of silence, because its emptiness feels idle, boring, unproductive, and scary. And so we fill our lives with chaos, noise, clutter. But silence can be lovely, and therapeutic, and powerful. It can be the remedy for our stress and the habits that crush us. If we [...]
The Habits That Crush Us
by Leo
23 Jan 2012 at 11:26am
‘Don’t panic.’ ~Douglas Adams Post written by Leo Babauta. Why is it that we cannot break the bad habits that stand in our way, crushing our desires to live a healthy life, be fit, simplify, be happier? How is it that our best intentions are nearly always beaten? We want to be focused and productive, [...]
Learning to Sit Alone, in a Quiet Empty Room
by Leo
17 Jan 2012 at 1:49pm
‘All men’s miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.’ ~Blaise Pascal Post written by Leo Babauta. Think about some of the problems of our daily lives, and how many of them would be eased if we could learn to sit alone, in a quiet empty room, with contentment. If [...]
Life as a Conscious Practice
by Leo

‘Everything is practice.’ ~Pele Post written by Leo Babauta. When we learn a martial art, or ballet, or gymnastics, or soccer ? we consciously practice movements in a deliberate way, repeatedly. By conscious, repeated practice, we become good at those movements. Our entire lives are like this, but we’re often less conscious of the practice. [...]

Clearing Your Life for a New Year
by Leo
9 Jan 2012 at 12:55pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. Every January, people rush out and get a gym membership, set a list of goals or resolutions, and get ready to take on a new year of frenetic activity. Unfortunately, we don’t often clear space to make room for all this new stuff. The beginning of the year is a [...]

Post written by Leo Babauta. So you’ve been putting off tackling your clutter for months, maybe even years. How to Have the Best Year of Your Life (without Setting a Single Goal)
by guest
5 Jan 2012 at 9:15am
Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Jeff Goins of Goins, Writer. This new year, do something different: stop setting goals. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, then making resolutions for another year is a sure-fire way to drive yourself crazy. I did [...]

Being Happy

Here is your Friday STORY on: HAPPINESS: No matter what you have, or DON'T HAVE, happiness comes from within you. If happiness could be bought you wouldn't see so many people searching for it in all sorts of things (drugs, alcohol, physical pleasure, etc.). However, lacking happiness also cuts across all lines. The poorest of the poor and the richest of the rich can be unhappy. The choice to be happy comes from inside you and is not dependent on who you are, what you do, where you live and how much money you have. Choose to be happy and you will be. A tale of kingdoms past is where our story takes us today, but the message is clear... THE KING WHO HAD EVERYTHING 'He had a large kingdom, much wealth, a beautiful queen, and beautiful children. He was well loved by his subjects, and his kingdom was not at war with any neighbouring kingdoms. But one day the king became sad and disconsolate. At first the jester was called in to cheer the king, but he was of no use. Then the minstrels were brought in, also to no avail. The king's advisors brought in entertainer after entertainer, but none could cheer the king. A few days later, the king fell ill and took to his bed. The best doctors were called, but none of the remedies they prescribed were of any help. At long last they brought in the court wizard. He performed a series of incantations, and then declared, "The king must wear the shirt of a truly happy man. Only that will cure him." Messengers and couriers were sent out in haste to find a truly happy man. They scoured the kingdom for a happy man. One by one they began to return with the news that they could not find such a man. Then, when all seemed lost, the last courier came running through the palace. While he had not found a happy man, he had heard tales of just such a man that lived deep in the king's forest on a small farm. Though he was weak, the king rose from bed, dressed, and rode with an entourage out into the forest. He arrived at the farmhouse late that night. Though it was not messy, it was apparent that the people who lived here were very poor. Nonetheless, the king knocked on the door and told the woman that answered that he had come to see her husband. She replied that he was fast asleep, but that she would wake him. After several minutes, a man came to the door wrapped in a blanket. The king explained his situation and told the man that he needed his shirt. At this the man began to laugh. The king grew angry, but this only caused the man to laugh more. Finally, the king demanded to know what was so funny. At this the man removed the blanket he had wrapped around him to show that he was so poor that he had no shirt.' (Unknown Author). QUOTE: 'The very purpose of our life is happiness: in order to achieve happier days, happier weeks, happier years, happier family, happier human community... we should pay more attention to inner development.' (His Holiness the Dalai Lama).

Emotional affair?????wtf!!!?
my wife and I are now separated because she claims I had an emotional affair with a female co-worker. I still see her and my 2 year old daughter almost every day. She's prego, can this be playing a majjor role on what's her actions are. I don't believe I had an affair with that female, wtf!! I love her a lot and I would never cheat on her never even thought about it. She talks about the future and she uses the "D" word (di***ce). I want to be with her and only her I have asked her to go to counseling as a couple and make things work but she denies! She claims she wouldn't be happy with me anymore"it will always be in the back of my mind". I have lied to her but I never did cheat on her. I guess a married man should NOT have any female friends and vice versa. I'm hanging on until after the baby is born to c if her feelings change. What's ur opinion?

Is it normal for my male rats to stink?
My 3 boys live in a huge multi-level ferret cage. It takes less than a day for them to start stinking again after I clean the cage. These are the first boy rats I've had, but I've had lots of female rats over the years and none ever stunk. Is it normal for them to stink so much? is there anything I can do or buy to reduce the stink? I already clean their cage 2x a week. Also, they are happy and otherwise healthy, so it's not an illness causing it.

What will happen if I tell her I love her?
So I have a friend who is in a happy relationship with this nice guy for almost 2 1/2 years. We are in high school, but he goes to a different school. I have told her that I have feelings for her, but lately they have gotten much stronger. I really want to tell her how a truly do feel deep down inside me, but she is happy with what she has and I dont want to ruin that for her. Nothing means more to me than for her to be happy. I'm afraid if I tell her, she will get freaked out or something and never talk to me again, or at least for a long time, and ruin our friendship. Ik she most likely will not leave her boyfriend, but it kills me inside know that she doesn't know the truth.

ESSAY; The Rap on Happiness
