The membership is a monthly subscription of $19.99, but really it’s a commitment to changing your life, and the tools needed to [...]
Creating Silence from Chaos
by Leo
27 Jan 2012 at 3:20pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. We are often afraid of silence, because its emptiness feels idle, boring, unproductive, and scary. And so we fill our lives with chaos, noise, clutter. But silence can be lovely, and therapeutic, and powerful. It can be the remedy for our stress and the habits that crush us. If we [...]
The Habits That Crush Us
by Leo
23 Jan 2012 at 11:26am
‘Don’t panic.’ ~Douglas Adams Post written by Leo Babauta. Why is it that we cannot break the bad habits that stand in our way, crushing our desires to live a healthy life, be fit, simplify, be happier? How is it that our best intentions are nearly always beaten? We want to be focused and productive, [...]

by Leo
17 Jan 2012 at 1:49pm
‘All men’s miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.’ ~Blaise Pascal Post written by Leo Babauta. Think about some of the problems of our daily lives, and how many of them would be eased if we could learn to sit alone, in a quiet empty room, with contentment. If [...]
Life as a Conscious Practice
by Leo

‘Everything is practice.’ ~Pele Post written by Leo Babauta. When we learn a martial art, or ballet, or gymnastics, or soccer ? we consciously practice movements in a deliberate way, repeatedly. By conscious, repeated practice, we become good at those movements. Our entire lives are like this, but we’re often less conscious of the practice. [...]

Clearing Your Life for a New Year
by Leo
9 Jan 2012 at 12:55pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. Every January, people rush out and get a gym membership, set a list of goals or resolutions, and get ready to take on a new year of frenetic activity. Unfortunately, we don’t often clear space to make room for all this new stuff. The beginning of the year is a [...]
How to Tackle Your Clutter
by Leo
6 Jan 2012 at 12:19pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. So you’ve been putting off tackling your clutter for months, maybe even years. Papers pile up on a counter, shelves are crammed full of books and magazines and other things, closets are stuffed to the point of spillage, clothes pile up on the floor or furniture, boxes and furniture and [...]
How to Have the Best Year of Your Life (without Setting a Single Goal)
by guest
5 Jan 2012 at 9:15am
Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Jeff Goins of Goins, Writer. This new year, do something different: stop setting goals. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, then making resolutions for another year is a sure-fire way to drive yourself crazy. I did [...]

Being Happy With Yourself

Here is your Friday STORY on: HAPPINESS: Happiness is the result of action. We know this but don't often apply it. Practical Philosophy isn't a serious study that would take four years at college or university. It is a reminder of good principles, beliefs and life's fundamentals. So happiness is a result of action. But his is positive action of course. You may think a monk or a nun does nothing. But their action is offering their soul to the lord. For every action a criminal does, it is one step nearer to trouble. This of course is stating the obvious. You will also know that greed, desire and keeping up with the Jones's can cause heartache and unhappiness. We know this but we still subscribe to it. Not in a big way, but in a small way. QUOTE: 'Boredom is simply a lack of attention.' (Christopher Fremantle - 1906 - 1978 Philosopher, Teacher). This may not apply to you, but many people desire to eat when they are bored! The answer to boredom is to become attentive and not eat (or over eat). To start a desire for anything other than a necessity begins a spiralling effect. If you don't get it on your first visit, the intensity of that desire gets bigger and stronger. It can start to take up more and more of your life. It engulfs everything. If you can control your desire, you can control your happiness. RELEASING THE COWS (Told by Master Thich Nhat Hanh) One day the Buddha was sitting in the wood with thirty or forty monks. They had an excellent lunch and they were enjoying the company of each other. There was a farmer passing by and the farmer was very unhappy. He asked the Buddha and the monks whether they had seen his cows passing by. The Buddha said they had not seen any cows passing by. The farmer said, "Monks, I'm so unhappy. I have twelve cows and I don't know why they all ran away. I have also a few acres of a sesame seed plantation and the insects have eaten up everything. I suffer so much I think I am going to kill myself. The Buddha said, "My friend, we have not seen any cows passing by here. You might like to look for them in the other direction." So the farmer thanked him and ran away, and the Buddha turned to his monks and said, "My dear friends, you are the happiest people in the world. You don't have any cows to lose. If you have too many cows to take care of, you will be very busy. "That is why, in order to be happy, you have to learn the art of cow releasing (laughter). You release the cows one by one. In the beginning you thought that those cows were essential to your happiness, and you tried to get more and more cows. But now you realize that cows are not really conditions for your happiness; they constitute an obstacle for your happiness. That is why you are determined to release your cows." QUOTE: "We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.' (Charles Kingsley).

What is your definition of beauty?
I feel as though nowadays people see beauty in the way somebody looks. If you're not pretty, you're ugly... and to me, that's ridiculous, if anythings ugly, it's definitely their personality. In my opinion, we all can be beautiful, it's up to you whether you choose to be beautiful or not. Beauty is skin deep. Beauty is personality. Beauty is being yourself and beauty is not judging others on how they look, dress or speak. Beauty is appreciating what you have. Beauty is being happy with yourself and accepting that nobody is perfect, everybody has flaws. How would you define beauty?

Having an issue with uppity homosexuals.?
I am getting sick and tired of hearing gay people telling me I need to embrace and accept my homosexuality. You know what, I went through a stage last week and almost accepted myself. But then I said to myself, I don't need to be gay. My DNA and brain can go and take a hike. I have free will, I don't need to bind myself to what I biologically am. But then gays will say" you will never be happy with yourself when you marry a women and can't perform." Well let me all ask you this. How come MtF and FtM have the option to alter and NOT ACCEPT themselves for who they are. They were born either male or female and they are allowed to change themselves. But when you are gay you can't. I can't let petty emotions get in the way of my life. I want a woman. I once had male crushes and had to sweep them aside because I can't let that interfere with me getting a girlfriend. Jesus I am autistic and gay, how can it get any worse? I believe I have a choice

Does everyone know that they're loved?
I want everyone to know that they're beautiful and i love them, Male, female, trans-gender, strait, gay, bi-sexual. We should celebrate everybody, you all deserve the best. I am saying this because there is a rise in suicides that shouldn't happen. People thinking that they're ugly because they ain't skinny enough. Don't wear expensive clothes, or don't smoke or do drugs. Well whatever decision you decide, stay with yourself, don't change for anybody. Respect all. If you don't think anybody loves you, think again, i love you, i don't know you, but i know that you were made special. I don't care if you're atheist, Buddhist, or christian or whatever religion, all i care is that you know you are beautiful and you are happy with yourself. Before you ever think about taking your own life, or bullying someone, remember i love you, and i'm sure theres hundreds of others who love you to. @Kyle I think we should all be in kinder-garden, they all love each other, sadly people slowly think that they are not loved, when they actually are. @jamez, i'm sorry for your lose of your cousin Holly Grogan, she will remain in the hearts of her loved ones and me :/
