by Leo
9 Feb 2012 at 8:56am
Post written by Leo Babauta. There is one little habit I’ve learned that has changed everything else in my life. The pause. When we fail, it’s because we act on urges without thinking, without realizing it. We have the urge to eat junk, and we do it. We have the urge to check email instead [...]
The Thousand Cuts Fitness Program

6 Feb 2012 at 10:43am
Post written by Leo Babauta. I’ve trained for marathons, triathlons, 10Ks, a 13.5-hour challenge, Ubanathlons, and more. But my favorite fitness program isn’t one where you train for a major event. It’s where you get fit by a thousand little actions. When the actions are tiny, they are easy. You have no excuse. You can [...]

Creating Silence from Chaos
by Leo
27 Jan 2012 at 3:20pm
Post written by Leo Babauta. We are often afraid of silence, because its emptiness feels idle, boring, unproductive, and scary. And so we fill our lives with chaos, noise, clutter. But silence can be lovely, and therapeutic, and powerful. It can be the remedy for our stress and the habits that crush us. If we [...]
The Habits That Crush Us

‘Don’t panic.’ ~Douglas Adams Post written by Leo Babauta. Why is it that we cannot break the bad habits that stand in our way, crushing our desires to live a healthy life, be fit, simplify, be happier? How is it that our best intentions are nearly always beaten? We want to be focused and productive, [...]

‘All men’s miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.’ ~Blaise Pascal Post written by Leo Babauta. Think about some of the problems of our daily lives, and how many of them would be eased if we could learn to sit alone, in a quiet empty room, with contentment. If [...]
Life as a Conscious Practice

‘Everything is practice.’ ~Pele Post written by Leo Babauta. When we learn a martial art, or ballet, or gymnastics, or soccer ? we consciously practice movements in a deliberate way, repeatedly. By conscious, repeated practice, we become good at those movements. Our entire lives are like this, but we’re often less conscious of the practice. [...]

Post written by Leo Babauta. Every January, people rush out and get a gym membership, set a list of goals or resolutions, and get ready to take on a new year of frenetic activity. Unfortunately, we don’t often clear space to make room for all this new stuff. The beginning of the year is a [...]

Argument Of Authority

Here is your Tuesday STORY on: SELF DEVELOPMENT: Sometimes... risks can be taken inch by inch. There are too many sayings that encourage us to take risks and establish that without taking risks we never improve. Of course whilst this philosophy is true, it can be easily misinterpreted! Proof of this will be surely within your own life. These risks can be categorised as thus: An irresponsible risk A Calculated risk We would assume that an irresponsible risk would fail and a calculated risk would be successful. If this was true, which type of risk are you going to use next time? A calculated risk is a plan split into several or even hundreds of movements. Then should failure loom after ten movements the plan can be shelved. However it seems that a greater chance of success will come from meticulous planning. In fact as the start of today's daily wisdom said, 'Inch by inch!' Today's story illustrates that in taking a calculated risk a weakness can become a strength. WEAKNESS OR STRENGTH? A happy 10-year-old boy was involved in an accident, sadly his arm was severely damaged and sadly had to be amputated. That is where the bad news finishes. This young boy still was the same young boy, but he had lost his left arm. His happy disposition was that he still wanted to be involved with everything. So after his request, his parents enrolled him into a 'judo' class. What an enormous task confronted him, with only one arm he was attempting to compete amongst his friends at the same level. The young boy approached the teacher and said he wanted to learn as much as possible about this sport. The judo teacher was apprehensive, but studied carefully the disability and came up with a solution. The judo teacher instructed the young boy to learn one important move. After a few weeks the boy was confused, he asked, 'Why do I only learn one move?' the judo teacher said, 'This is the only move you need to know!' (Inch by inch the boy would practice this move, until his skill was masterful). A few months later the judo school entered the annual national competition. To everyone's surprise the young boy with only one arm progressed through all the stages to the final. His opponent was a boy both larger and physically stronger. The odds were against the young boy with one arm. He tussled bravely and the audience were in fear for the young boy's safety. As the final progressed, it was clear that the young boy was trying to make the same move to win the tournament. But he fought bravely and frustrated the opponent. Suddenly his larger opponent became so disorientated he lost concentration. The young boy tried his move once more and successfully won the tournament for his judo school. The young boy amongst many others was confused but delighted about his win. He approached his judo teacher after the win and asked why he had been so successful. His teacher replied, 'There is only one defence to the move I taught you, if and when you secure the correct grip in your attack, the only defence is to grasp your left arm...' (Unknown Author). QUOTE: "When you take risks there is a possibility of failing, and yet by taking no risks, failure is certain.' (Eva, Author and Philosopher). 'And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.' (Erica Jong).

Jesusism vs. Christianity?
There are many people who were brought up as Christians but are alienated from Christianity, because they think it has buried Jesus' true message in irrationality and superstition. Is "Jesusism" the answer? "Jesusism is a neologism meaning a spiritual and political philosophy committed to observing the teachings of Jesus and other sages while also seeking truth through empirical reasoning. "From the perspective of the Jesusists, Christianity is an artifice designed to exploit the masses through indoctrination into a framework of logical fallacies. As an example, the argument of authority: the Scriptures are the word of God because the Scripture itself says so ("All Scripture is God breathed" in 2Tim.3,16) and this was said by Paul even before Paul's own epistle was considered as Scripture. "While the two titles sound similar, the important distinction is that Christianity derives its name from Jesus Christ (the annointed), whereas Jesusism acknowledges the profound contributions of Jesus the man to the pursuit of peace and kindness, but does not demand his elevation to divine status for his teachings to have meaning." (Anarchopedia) What do you think?

Ok, I can biblically prove I'm right, but can you read all and try to make an impartial analysis? Not so long.?
I asked a question by which I said that doctor Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenks are wrong for teaching in the "left behind" movie that babies will be raptured. I can prove this in Scripture. First... the verse that says "the kingdom of the heavens belongs to the children" means only that the kingdom of the heavens belongs to the children, not that they will be raptured. What I mean by this is that the rapture is not the only way to get to heaven, and so this verse can prove nothing about children being raptured. Besides, if this verse is taken is context, it means just that children is quaranteed and special into the davidic (messianic) kingdom. In the sinopitic gospels, almost all ocurrences of "kingdom of God/heavens" are references to the messianic kingdom. Ok. The second argument is related to the first one. Since the rapture is not the only way for one to get to heaven, we don't need to include children in the rapture because it's said to be for the "body of Christ, the church". The problem is that one is not part of the church except he believes Christ and is born again. A child has no sin and is a saved creature, but is not born again in Christ. Babies can't believe anything. Thrid argument, the tribulation is a time of judgement and therefore we have no good reason to not see children in it. I can give you two examples in Scripture: 1, God killed everybody in the flood, even children. 2, God killed everybody in sodom, even children. Why wouldn't God allow children to be killed in the tribulation period?? Just because your son/daughter is a christian's kid?? What about the kids of muslims, jews, budists, atheists, etc... ?? And from here I get my fourth and last argument... Fourth, how can a born again christian, a person who knows Jesus Christ and walks with the Holy Spirit imagine that in the body of Christ, the immaculate, pure, holy, washed, etc church of Christ, would participate chirldren born in pagan religions and consecrated to several idols, which we know are all demons??? Ok, you can refute me, now. But please, take your Bible. Don't come with an argument of authority, like one guy used by saying that it's better to believe Tim LaHaye than me... aff...
