Post written by Leo Babauta. Before I learned how to change habits, I was stuck. I kept trying to change various habits — running, eating healthier, waking earlier, getting out of debt, ending procrastination — and I kept failing. I got very good at failing, in fact. Why We Overplan
by Leo
17 Apr 2012 at 8:40am
‘A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.’ ~Lao Tzu Post written by Leo Babauta. There is something about my mind, and many people’s minds, that is overly optimistic. We think we can do so much each day, and so we overplan. We fill our plans with so much, confident [...]

Here is your Saturday STORY on: SOLVING PROBLEMS: I personally have a problem with jealousy and consistently fight its effect, as I guess does everyone. If I could help diminish its effect, would you be impressed? Opportunities arise regularly to dissolve big issues in life, but we forget to take them. Let me explain... What I have always endeavoured to do with a subject is to turn it on its head. Instead of jealousy being a problem, I've tried to view it from beauty. What is jealousy telling you? It is saying in a relationship for example that you are selfishly in love with your partner. But love is a beautiful thing! Being too selfish is where the trap is! In every aspect of your life, being too selfish can destroy what is good. As jealousy can often damage a relationship, isn't it then beautiful when you notice the moment a jealous thought enters your head, this is an opportunity to put things right? Today's story is about selfishness and to what extent you can take it. When you think you are right, you become so self-indulged that no other person can offer a better solution. The story although amusing and often used as a joke, has a stark reminder how selfish we can all be at times. THE FLOOD It was a day of heavy rain and the flood-waters came, a man, a religious man, was trapped on his own roof. As he saw the waters rise he prayed for God's assistance. "I know he will come and save me, " the man said. Two men came by in a small boat, "Hop in old chap, we can take you to dry land, " they said. "It's okay, " he replied, "God is coming to save me." A speed-boat then passed. "Jump in quick, the water is rising, " said the driver. "It's okay, " he replied, "God is coming to save me." As the waters began to rise a helicopter flew by. "Climb onto the rope ladder, we can still save your life, " said the rescuer. "It's okay, " he replied, "God is coming to save me." Eventually the man drowned. As he got to the gates of heaven, he was annoyed. "Where is God, I want a word with him, " he said in a raised voice. "I am God, what can I do for you?" The man continued, "You of all people should answer prayers, I drowned as a consequence of you!" God replied, "I sent a rowing boat, a speed boat and a helicopter, what else could I have done!" Opportunities are presented to you if you choose to take them. As soon as you see a jealous moment arrive, you have an opportunity to improve and thus lessen the grip it is likely to take. QUOTE: "Bad times have a value. These are occasions a good learner would not miss." (Ralph Waldo Emerson, Author & Philosopher). [[ct]]: Anxiety Medications

Seizure After Surgery?
I was diagnosed with temperal lobe epilepsy when I was 11 years old ( I am now 23 ). I saw several neurologists throughout the years when I was a child, and went through all combinations of medications. When I was 16, I found my current neurologist, Dr Orrin Devinsky at Langone Medical Center in NY. Since I started my seizures at the time most children would be outgrowing theirs by the time they hit puberty, he concluded I would have them for the rest of my life because they were caused by the changing of hormones in my body as I went through puberty at the start of my epilepsy. We talked brain surgery over and went through many EEG's, MEGs MRIs, CAT scans, WADA tests, basically every test and found out since my infarcture was on the surface of my brain I was a candidate. On June 26th 2007 I had the surgery. After that, I was almost seizure free 5 years. April 1st of this year I had 4 seizures and had to go to the ER. (What a cruel April Fools joke huh) I get these "auras," which is a certain type of feeling someone gets before they actually convulse. I get these a lot now, but don't go into having seizures. They feel like anxiety attacks and happen out of the blue, I freak out and take an extra pills (Keppra 750mg) on my medications because I don't know what else to do. I was just wondering if anyone that has these panic attack like "auras" are on anxiety medications, or any type of other medication that they take right when they get them that stops the feeling right away... I'm going to NY to see my neurologist today and am going to ask him these questions, but I was just curious as to see if anyone has any input or takes (I heard they have adavan in a pill form that you can take right when you have feelings and they stop), because I would like to hear from the people that have the same problem as myself Thank you! Sarah I had gone to my neurologist. He put me on Clonezapam .25mg I take only at night to make my anxiety dissipate. It's an anti-anxiety, anti-epileptic, stress reliever. They give it to people to help their anxiety and it's an anti epileptic drug as well. Some give it to patients that have sleep disorders to sedate them. I took it last night, made me a little drowsy, but really mellow in a good way. He said the VNS doesn't really work lol
