Why are people so quick to suggest pills as an answer to depression and other mental illness?
Many times pills are not actually needed. Out of 100 perscriptions a doctor writes, 5-10 of them may actually be necessary. In many cases these drugs can worsen your health metally and physically. Sometimes, I think, people just need some time to figure things out. I realize this is not always the case as I have stated above. Some people are deffinitely in need of meds. Before you take any drug you should do some research to see if the benefits outweigh the negative effects. These drugs cause serious side effects and are not always necessary. That's the bottom line.

Why did anti-depressant medication work before the SSRIs?
It seems that lithium, MAOs, tricyclic and other medications helped depression before prozac and other selective seratonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) came along. If these other medications worked before the SSRIs, then why is seratonin regulation the only answer to depression?
